Toyota may have been slow to the electric-vehicle (EV) game. Still, the automaker’s other models remain hot sellers in their respective segments. New versions of popular models like the Tacoma and Land Cruiser will appear in 2024, while the company updates many of its other models, refining the tech and other features for the new model year. We’ll also see the new Grand Highlander, which adds more family-friendly interior space and comfort to the already-kid-ready Highlander SUV.
After substantial updates to the aging Sequoia, Tacoma, and Tundra, eyes were on the 4Runner for a 2024 overhaul, but that’s not happening. The conventional body-on-frame SUV rolls into 2024 mostly unchanged, save for a new Terra color option offered for the TRD Pro variant.
Co-developed alongside the Subaru Solterra, the all-electric Toyota bZ4X was all-new for the 2023 model year. Thus, changes for the 2024 model year are minimal, focused primarily on convenience and charging capability. The top-level Limited trim gets a hands-free parking system. At the same time, the base XLE receives an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and a power liftgate. Elsewhere, a newly standard dual-voltage charge cable allows for Level 1 or Level 2 charging. Toyota also enhances its digital information display to include battery state of charge, estimated charge time to 80 percent, and estimated vehicle range. Additionally, new bZ4X buyers receive one free year of charging nationwide via the EVgo network.
The Toyota Camry is mostly unchanged for 2024, except for removing Amazon Alexa functionality from the infotainment system. This also applies to the Camry Hybrid. An all-new Camry waits in the wings for the 2025 model year.
Toyota updates the Corolla in 2024 with the revival of the Nightshade Edition package. Based on the SE trim, it adds dark exterior trim bronze wheels, and the Corolla Hatchback sees a new spoiler and black roof.
The Corolla Cross is a relatively new model in Toyota’s catalog, having only been on sale since 2022. Also available as a hybrid, the Corolla Cross enters 2024 unchanged.
The funky Toyota Crown sees a few changes for 2024, including a newly available Advance Technology package for the Limited trim, which brings adaptive cruise control, front cross-traffic warning, and lane-change assistance. Toyota also adds the package as standard equipment for the range-topping Platinum trim.
The playful GR86 gets a new Trueno Edition for 2024, an homage to the AE86 Corolla. It has Brembo brakes, Sachs dampers, and an 860-unit limited production run. Some Trueno Edition components are available for the standard GR86 in an option package. Toyota also adds advanced driver aids to cars with a manual transmission for the first time, including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning.
The GR Corolla landed in 2023 with rally-inspired all-wheel drive and a turbocharged 3-cylinder engine. Toyota cuts the ultra-limited Morizo Edition for 2024 but continues with the Core and Circuit Edition cars. Additionally, the 2024 GR Corolla gets a new Premium trim for 2024, which brings Torsen limited-slip differentials in the front and rear, red brake calipers, and suede upholstery.
Toyota updates the GR Supra with a 45th Anniversary Edition limited to 900 units. It gets orange or white paint with matte black wheels and unique graphics. The car also has a manually adjustable rear wing.
The Toyota Grand Highlander is brand new for 2024, bringing more space for people and gear. It’s available with three powertrain options: a turbocharged 4-cylinder with 265 horsepower, a hybrid with 243 hp, and the range-topping Hybrid Max powertrain with 362 hp. The Grand Highlander’s stretched exterior dimensions add more than an inch of headroom and a whopping 5 inches of legroom to the third-row seats. There’s also more cargo space, with 20.6 cubic feet behind the third row, up from 16 in the standard Highlander.
The standard Highlander enters 2024 with no significant updates. Toyota offers a new Nightshade trim for the Highlander Hybrid that adds darkened trim, black wheels, and more.
The Land Cruiser returns to Toyota’s lineup after a few years away. However, the new SUV is different from the one that departed. The new U.S.-bound Land Cruiser shares a platform with the smaller Land Cruiser Prado. It will come with a turbocharged hybrid 4-cylinder engine instead of the outgoing model’s V8. Toyota will offer two main configurations, including a retro-inspired model with old-school round headlights. Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 comes standard, and buyers can upgrade the Land Cruiser with niceties like a surround-view trail camera system.
As of this writing, Toyota has yet to release official information for the 2024 Mirai.
After a complete redesign in 2023, the Toyota Prius and Prius Prime roll into 2024 unchanged.
The Toyota RAV4 enters 2024 with a new Army Green paint color but no other updates. Though popular, the plug-in hybrid RAV4 Prime receives no changes for 2024. It carries on with 42 miles of all-electric range, 302 hp, and a claimed 5.5-second zero-to-60-mph time. It also returns 38 mpg combined in hybrid mode, making it one of the most fuel-efficient SUVs in its class. Meanwhile, the RAV4 Hybrid gets a new Woodland Edition trim with rugged exterior styling, roof storage, and unique wheel designs. Industry observers expect Toyota’s ultra-popular family hauler to get a complete redesign after the upcoming model year, so more drastic changes are coming.
Toyota adds a new Limited Nightshade variant with dark trim to the Sequoia line for the 2024 model year. Other trims gain additional standard and optional features, including the Platinum, which is available with a TRD Off-Road package.
The 25th Anniversary trim from 2023 is gone. In its place, Toyota adds a new XSE Premium trim to the Sienna minivan lineup. It has an upscale interior with leather upholstery and unique styling elements. Toyota also subtly changes the appearance of other trims, including the LE and XLE, which have darkened chrome accented headlights for the new model year.
The Tacoma finally receives an update for 2024, and the all-new midsize truck enters the next model year with a range of powertrains, including two hybrid options. The new Trailhunter trim brings several popular aftermarket upgrades in an overlanding-ready package, and the entire lineup gets an exterior freshening with new front styling. Toyota drastically improves the Tacoma’s interior for the new model year, and the truck gets a fresh infotainment system with a standard 8- or available 14-inch display.
Toyota gives the Tundra a few updates for 2024, including a new TRD Off-Road package for the Platinum trim. A Nightshade package is also available for the Limited trim, and the variant gets a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster for 2024. Toyota also expands the availability of the head-up display and now offers it as a standalone option.
Now in its fourth model year after its 2021 introduction, the Venza 2-row hybrid crossover SUV enters 2024 unchanged. Toyota continues offering it in LE, XLE, and Limited trims, as well as a unique Nightshade edition.
