For 2023, iconic SUV brand Jeep lengthens its model lineup—literally. Following the elongation of the Grand Cherokee in 2021, Jeep offers stretched versions of its big Wagoneer and the luxe Grand Wagoneer SUVs; both L variants add 12 inches to their overall length and provide extra room for cargo.

Jeep just announced that it plans to ramp up its electric-vehicle (EV) portfolio, with electrified variants of every Jeep by 2025, new EVs in the pipeline, and a plan to have EVs comprise half the brand’s sales by 2030. It begins its zero-emissions pledge by dropping the diesel engine from the Wrangler but keeps it for the Gladiator. Whatever the power plant or model, Jeep stays true to its mission of building capable vehicles for on- and off-road adventures.
At the time of writing, Jeep hadn’t announced changes to the Cherokee and Compass SUVs for the 2023 model year. Listed below are changes to all other 2023 Jeep models.
Changes to Jeep’s Gladiator pickup truck are minor for 2023. Jeep debuts the Freedom special edition—a salute to the U.S. armed forces. It features military-themed badges and decals inside and out, along with a $250 donation to a military charity. For the High Altitude trim level, you can get a new Capability package, which includes steel rock rails, a front off-road camera, and a steel front bumper that accommodates a winch. And for the Willys trim, you’ll find a 7-inch instrument cluster and proximity keyless entry with remote engine start.
Jeep’s Grand Cherokee midsize SUV had a complete redesign for 2022, so 2023 holds minor changes. Among them is a new 4xe 30th Anniversary Edition that puts blacked-out trim inside and out of the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version. Also, the standard-wheelbase Grand Cherokee’s Trailhawk trim level now comes only as a PHEV. Other changes include a new 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation for the Limited and Overland trim levels and new audio system choices for the higher trims.
Jeep offers the Grand Cherokee with your choice of a 290-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine, a 357-hp 5.7-liter V8, or a 375-hp plug-in hybrid with 25 miles of electric range. If you find the 5-passenger configuration of the Grand Cherokee too constricting, you can opt for the Grand Cherokee L, with 12 extra inches of length that translate into three rows with room for six or seven people.
Jeep introduced its flagship SUV, the Grand Wagoneer, for 2022. For 2023, it extends the line further with the extended-wheelbase Grand Wagoneer L, which stretches the vehicle by 12 inches. It all goes toward the cargo area, delivering an additional 15.8 cubic feet of space.
Whether you choose the standard or extended length, three trim levels are available: Grand Wagoneer Series I, II, and III. A 417-hp 6.4-liter V8 moves the standard-length 3-row SUV. The Series II and III now come with an upgraded 510-hp, twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine, although buyers may still opt for the V8. The extended Grand Wagoneer L variant only comes with the inline-6 engine.
Only minor changes are on tap for 2023 for the Renegade, Jeep’s subcompact SUV, with the realignment of features available in various packages. LED headlights, fog lights, and rear taillamps are available for certain trim levels. A 177-hp, turbocharged 1.3-liter 4-cylinder engine with available 4-wheel drive motivates the Jeep Renegade, which buyers can outfit in Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk trims.
For 2023, the Jeep Wagoneer debuts a long-wheelbase variant, which lengthens the Wagoneer by 12 inches, giving it much more cargo space; behind the third row, cargo capacity increases from 27.4 to 42.1 cubic feet.
A 392-hp, 5.7-liter V8 engine continues to power the Wagoneer. The Wagoneer L has a 420-hp, turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine that also serves as the upgraded power plant for the regular-length Wagoneer Series II and Series III. In addition, for 2023, buyers may dress up the Wagoneer II with a Carbide package featuring 20-inch wheels or a 22-inch wheel upgrade. The off-road-capable Wagoneer can accommodate up to eight passengers and haul up to 10,000 pounds.
Jeep’s perennially young-at-heart Wrangler gets a few minor modifications for the 2023 model year. It includes American flag decals on each front fender and a Wrangler Freedom edition dedicated to the U.S. military that wears decals and badges and has steel rock rails and front bumper. New wheel designs debut for the Rubicon trim, and a few new color choices round out the changes for 2023.
As tradition dictates, the Wrangler offers endless customization options, such as 2- or 4-door configuration, half and full doors, five trim levels, various tops, and option packages. Jeep drops the EcoDiesel engine from the Wrangler for 2023, leaving two gas-only engines and a PHEV with 21 miles of all-electric range as its remaining powertrain choices.
