Half a decade has elapsed since Porsche introduced its first electric vehicle, the Taycan. So, while the relatively rare car still seems new, the time has come for a substantial refresh to ensure it remains competitive with other luxury performance EVs.
The 2025 Porsche Taycan continues in sedan and Cross Turismo sports wagon body styles and in standard, 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S model series. Porsche says the 2025 Taycan lineup benefits from updated styling, added standard equipment, new technology, and improved power, acceleration, and range.
Prices start at just over $101,000, including the $1,995 destination charge. That’s about $10,000 more than the outgoing 2024 Taycan. So, what do you get for the added money?
Porsche bestows new design details upon the Taycan, and the car looks better for them, especially in front.
The droopy appearance of the headlights is gone, and they feature high-definition LED matrix illumination with Porsche’s signature four-point appearance. In addition, the 2025 Taycan has new front fenders, a restyled rear bumper, revised and aerodynamically optimized wheel designs, and an available illuminated Porsche logo in the rear light strip.
New paint colors freshen the palette, and Porsche creates further visual differentiation for the pricey Turbo and Turbo S models by adding Turbonite accents inside and out.
Interior changes are not as noticeable. For example, there is more standard equipment on the base Taycan, including a heated steering wheel, ambient cabin lighting, brushed aluminum door sill covers, and a wireless charging pad.
The big news pertains to newly optional leather-free interiors with Race-Tex artificial suede or a wool textile in a classic Porsche Pepita houndstooth pattern. They are an extra-cost option on base and 4S models and a no-charge upgrade for the Turbo and Turbo S.
Porsche makes several improvements to the Taycan’s electric drive systems. They continue to offer rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (AWD), and all versions of the car benefit from a new rear-axle motor with up to 80 kilowatts (kW) more power. Additionally, the 2025 Taycan boasts lighter yet more powerful batteries, an updated thermal management system, a new heat pump, increased energy recovery when decelerating, and optimized software.
As a result, all Taycan models are more powerful and accelerate faster than before. The slowest rear-drive Taycan sedan reaches 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, while the fastest Turbo S sedan gets there in 2.3 seconds when using launch control. According to Porsche, the 938-horsepower Taycan Turbo S sedan is the quickest and most powerful production car it has ever sold.
Need more motive force? Buy the optional Sport Chrono Package, and it installs a push-to-pass function. With the push of a button, it adds up to 70 kW of extra power for 10 seconds.
The 2025 Taycan also recharges faster than before. When using an 800-volt DC fast charger, the car’s battery can accept up to 320 kW of power (up from 270). Under ideal conditions, the battery recharges from 10 percent to 80 percent in 18 minutes. Porsche says it has also improved the recharging time using a 400-volt, 150-kW fast charger.
An adaptive damping suspension and a Drive Mode switch are now standard on the base Taycan, and any version with AWD is available with Porsche Active Ride suspension. The automaker says the upgrade keeps the Taycan’s body level, compensates for any pitching or rolling motions, and provides a smooth ride without negatively affecting handling capability.
In the new 2025 Taycan, the Porsche Driver Experience continues to offer a digital instrumentation panel, a center touchscreen infotainment system, and an available display in front of the passenger. However, the automaker says it has optimized the technology for an improved user experience while adding new functions.
For example, Porsche says Apple CarPlay is better integrated than before. Also, a new In-Car Video feature lets you stream content to the center or right front display screen.
As for safety features, a new control lever intends to improve the usability of the advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS).
Few rivals to the 2025 Porsche Taycan exist, and the Cross Turismo version stands alone. Alternatives to the Taycan sedan include the Audi E-tron GT, Lucid Air, Mercedes-AMG EQE, and Tesla Model S Plaid.
