Mini's electric push will bring new zero-emissions variants of their most popular models. Among them is the 2025 Countryman Electric, the first of the automaker's models built in Germany. The crossover enters its third generation for the 2025 model year, and Mini offers it in gas, diesel, and electrified variants. Mini previously announced the internal combustion models, which are already on sale, while the electric version is only now getting a full reveal. This preview focuses on the all-electric Countryman EV.

Mini offers the new Countryman Electric in four trim levels: Essential, Classic, Favoured, and John Cooper Works (JCW). The electric crossover is available with two powertrain configurations, including the base model with 204 horsepower and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant with 313. Beyond the novel electric drivetrain, the Countryman EV gets a new Mini operating system and a unique round OLED infotainment display.

The Mini Countryman has a more upright, slightly boxier shape than the brand's other models, and the electric version is more of the same. Mini says it features "expressive off-road character," but the crossover is not rugged by any stretch of the imagination. Even so, it has short front and rear overhangs with large wheels, which gives it a classic Mini look despite its frumpier proportions. The new Countryman also has a longer wheelbase, which Mini says gives it a more stable, comfortable ride and better interior space.
The 2025 Countryman's drag coefficient is 0.26, making it more aerodynamic than its predecessor. Mini says it reduced the number of exterior trim components to give the Countryman EV a more striking visual impact. That simplification includes removing the chrome headlight accents and more body-colored elements instead of flashy badges and trim pieces. Each trim has unique exterior accents and color options, such as the JCW's gloss black exterior accents and red roof color.

Mini says the new Countryman's cabin has a "homely feel-good atmosphere," thanks to warm materials like the knitted textile accents made from recycled polyester. Mini increased interior space over the previous model, with rear-seat shoulder room up by about an inch. You can adjust the rear seats by up to 5 inches fore and aft to achieve more legroom or cargo space as the situation demands. Mini offers a panoramic glass roof, and the JCW variant gets sport seats with memory functions.
The base Countryman E gets a single electric motor with 204 hp and 184 pound-feet of torque. The Countryman SE All4 gets two electric motors and AWD with 313 hp and 364 pound-feet of torque combined. According to Mini, the Countryman SE's dual-motor configuration enables a 5.6-second zero-to-60-mph time.
The range estimates reach 287 miles for the E and around 270 for the SE. It's important to note that Mini generated these range numbers on the WLTP cycle in Europe, which is typically more generous with its range estimates than the EPA in the United States. That could mean less impressive range numbers when the car arrives stateside. Mini says the Countryman EV can charge at up to 130 kW using a DC fast charger, which, according to the automaker, can push the battery level from 10 to 80 percent in less than half an hour.
Mini offers adaptive suspension in the Countryman EV that enables up to 15 mm lowering of the vehicle, and available wheel sizes range from 17 to 20 inches. An updated steering system provides what Mini describes as better feel and response. Additionally, the automaker says the new, wider tire sizes give the Countryman better grip and Mini's signature go-kart-like handling performance. On top of that, the EV can tow up to 1,200 kgs, or around 2,645 pounds, which is enough to pull a small boat or trailer.
In addition to more traditional advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, which Mini equips as standard, the new Countryman Electric gets a standard trailer assistance feature that helps maneuver the car with guidance for steering inputs. Meanwhile, the available active parking assistance can navigate the vehicle out of tight parking spots. Tighter integration with Mini's app gives the crossover a host of connected services features, such as remote parking maneuvering from outside the car.
Mini offers a Level 2 semi-autonomous driving system for the Countryman EV that enables hands-free driving on smaller highways at up to 60 km/h (around 38 mph—this will likely change for the U.S. model). The large central touchscreen displays real-time information on the ADAS, including suggestions and warnings from the semi-autonomous driving function.
Mini's new Operating System 9 promises a more straightforward, responsive interface with persistent icons for frequently used functions like climate and audio. The large display offers dynamic backgrounds and color themes that change with drive modes and react to audio functions, including the Go-Kart mode with racing-themed graphics. In some settings, the car's ambient interior lighting mimics the album playing on the audio system.
As of this writing, Mini hasn't announced a solid U.S. release date or pricing, but the Mini Countryman will compete with a range of small electric SUVs that could include the Volvo XC40 Recharge. The Tesla Model Y is a likely rival, though it offers more range. Buyers may also shop for more mainstream brands like the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5, or the Kia EV6.
