The Kia Seltos debuted in 2020 as a compact entry to the automaker’s growing SUV lineup. It featured styling influence from the incredibly popular Kia Telluride and could be had in exciting colors, making it a youthful, attractive vehicle. Kia recently announced updates to the Seltos for 2024, including a new X-Line trim level, a bump in power, and revised styling that gives it a more modern look.

Kia will offer the 2024 Seltos in LX, S, EX, X-Line, and SX trims. Two powertrain choices are available, and active all-wheel drive (AWD) is optional. Though it’s revealing the new Seltos as a 2024 model, Kia says it will hit dealers’ showrooms in early 2023.

For 2024, the Kia Seltos gets a makeover that brings an updated “tiger nose” grille and eye-catching LED running lights. Kia offers a signature lighting system for the grille and integrates the fog lights with the LED daytime running lights for a cleaner look up front. All trims get new wheel designs, and Kia offers three new colors, including Pluton Blue, Fusion Black, and Valais Green. The new X-Line trim gets an exclusive 18-inch wheel design and gloss black exterior trim. It also has a unique grille design and features X-Line badging on the exterior.

Kia updated the Seltos’ interior with a new dash design, but the space is otherwise similar. The SUV retains a real gear shift lever instead of a dial or push-button setup, the dash is clean, with few buttons and controls, and front passengers get sporty but supportive seats wrapped in cloth or synthetic leather upholstery. Top trims will likely remain available with heated seats and upgraded finishes, such as a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.
Kia will continue offering two engine choices in the 2024 Seltos: a naturally aspirated 4-cylinder and a turbocharged 4-cylinder. The base 2.0-liter unit delivers 147 hp and 132 pound-feet of torque. Kia pairs it with a continuously variable transmission and either front-wheel drive or AWD. The upgraded engine remains a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder, but Kia gave it a 20-hp boost for 2024, now delivering 195 horsepower. Torque stays flat at 195 pound-feet, and power reaches all four wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The previous Seltos was no slouch on safety equipment, but the 2024 model adds new features to keep up with the times. It now gets automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot warning, intelligent speed limit assist, and speed limit warnings. The Seltos’ standard package of advanced driver assistance systems from previous years carries over and includes forward-collision warning, Highway Driving Assist (SX trim), a driver monitoring system, and more.
Tech offerings roll over from 2023 and include a standard 8-inch touchscreen with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, HD Radio, and voice recognition. Top trims come with a 10.25-inch display with satellite radio and improved voice recognition. A Bose 8-speaker audio system is available, along with wireless charging and an intelligent key system with push-button start.
Kia adds new optional connected services for the 2024 Seltos, including a digital key system that allows owners to use their smartphones to lock or unlock their vehicles. They can also share those keys with other people. Kia also includes over-the-air updates for maps and infotainment software and says it will add new features over time.
The Kia Seltos competes with a wide range of models, some of which come from within the Kia/Hyundai family. Buyers may look at the Kia Soul for its upright shape with excellent headroom and cargo space or consider the Hyundai Kona with its funky styling and excellent fuel economy. There’s also the Chevrolet Trailblazer, which is light on off-road features but heavy on easy-to-use tech. The Jeep Renegade exists, but it’s aging badly and needs a refresh. Finally, the Subaru Crosstrek got a big update for 2024, likely making it the Seltos’ most compelling alternative.
