Many expected Chevrolet to discontinue the tiny Trax crossover after 2022, but the automaker went the opposite direction and announced an all-new model with dramatic changes across the board. Chevy opted to skip the 2023 model year and release the new SUV in 2024. The 2024 Trax gets a load of new tech, generous standard safety equipment, and upscale features not seen in the vehicle before. Chevy equips a turbocharged 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine across the board.

The 2024 Chevrolet Trax comes in five trim levels: LS, 1RS, LT, 2RS, and Activ. Though it’s nearly completely different, Chevy retained the Trax’s reasonable price tag, starting pricing in the low $20,000 range. With the diminutive Spark hatchback now discontinued, that bargain MSRP makes the Trax the cheapest model offered by an American automaker. At the same time, the crossover is larger in almost all measures than the 2022 Trax, offering more interior space for both people and cargo.

The 2024 Chevrolet Trax is longer, lower, and wider than its predecessor. Chevy says it drew inspiration from the Blazer’s styling, which means sharper lines and a more aggressive look overall. The new model is a massive 4 inches lower than before in overall height, and it rides on wheels ranging from 17 to 19 inches. The new front-end design features slim headlights with LED daytime running lights. The exterior trim color varies between trim levels: the LS and LT get bright trim, the RS receives dark accents, and the Activ comes with titanium chrome accents.

Chevy says it designed the Trax’s interior to have a lightweight feel. The cabin features long, flowing lines and new tech that dominate the dash. A low dash aids outward visibility, and the interior features textured pattern accents throughout. Interior colors and finishes vary by trim: the LT comes with black seats and grey accents, the 2RS gets red accents and a flat-bottom steering wheel, and the Activ gets synthetic upholstery with yellow accents. A sunroof is available, and top trims get heated front seats.
Every 2024 Trax comes with a turbocharged 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine that produces 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. Chevrolet pairs it with a 6-speed automatic transmission and either front- or all-wheel drive (AWD). As a basic, affordable vehicle, the Trax lacks advanced drivetrain functions, such as torque vectoring.
The 2024 Trax comes standard with Chevy Safety Assist. The package of advanced driver assistance systems includes:
All new Trax SUVs also get a reversing camera. Chevy offers adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and a rear parking assist system as options.
Chevrolet significantly improved the 2024 Trax in the technology department. The LS and 1RS come with an 8-inch touchscreen, while the LT, 2RS, and Activ come with an 11-inch touchscreen and an 8-inch digital gauge cluster. Chevy’s infotainment interface is colorful and offers a simple, intuitive avenue for interacting with vehicle functions. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, and top trims add automatic climate control, push-button start, and additional USB ports. Chevy offers wireless smartphone interface connectivity and wireless phone charging as options.
The Chevrolet Trax competes with a wide range of small crossovers. The Mazda CX-30 features a lively available turbo engine, an upscale interior, and sporty driving dynamics. It also comes standard with AWD, making it an outstanding value. The Hyundai Kona is available with various trim and powertrain options, including an all-electric model. The Kia Soul is funky but brings extraordinary utility and space. Finally, the Volkswagen Taos is a new addition to the automaker’s lineup and offers solid tech and a surprisingly comfortable interior.
