The XT4 is Cadillac’s smallest crossover, slotting into the automaker’s lineup beneath the XT5. Now four years into its first generation, Cadillac is giving the pint-sized luxury SUV a makeover. The 2024 XT4 has massaged exterior styling, a massive 33-inch touchscreen, and updated safety tech.

Cadillac offers the new XT4 in three trim levels: Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport. All variants have a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and front-wheel (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). The Kansas-built XT4 shares much of its underlying engineering with the Buick Envision, which will likely also undergo a refresh for the 2024 model year.

Cadillac gives the 2024 XT4 a new front and rear design with an updated grille and redesigned headlights up front. Each trim has a unique grille and exterior accents, with the Sport trim getting a dark grille and exterior trim pieces. The fresh wheel designs come in 18- and 20-inch sizes, and Cadillac introduces three new colors: Emerald Lake Metallic, Midnight Sky Metallic, and Deep Sea Metallic.

Cadillac refreshed the XT4’s cabin with a heavy focus on tech and displays. The dash design is new to accommodate the giant touchscreen, and aluminum trim highlights the length of the new display panel. The look is not unlike that of the Escalade, where the screen takes up most of the dash, and Cadillac retained physical buttons and controls in the center stack for many functions.
New interior color and trim options are available, including carbon fiber, wood, and aluminum. Cadillac offers a Cold Weather package with heated front and rear outboard seats and a heated steering wheel. The Premium Luxury and Sport trims are available with ventilated and massaging front seats.
The 2024 XT4 retains its predecessor’s powertrain, which includes a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine producing 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Cadillac pairs it with a 9-speed automatic transmission and FWD or AWD. Automatic engine stop/start is standard, and the engine uses cylinder deactivation to conserve fuel when cruising.
All XT4s have a drive-mode selector that offers Tour, Sport, and Snow/Ice settings. It works with the SUV’s twin-clutch AWD system to shift torque to the wheels that need it. The Sport trim adds an adaptive suspension, but most get MacPherson front struts and a 5-link independent rear suspension.
The last XT4 to receive a crash-test score from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) was the 2021 model. It earned the highest-possible Good scores in the limited testing performed. Cadillac says it improved the 2024 model’s advanced driver aids. The list of standard tech includes blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning and braking, automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic high-beam headlights, lane-keeping assistance and lane-departure warning, and second-row seat belt reminders.
Available tech comes in the Active Safety package, which includes:
The package adds intersection turn assistance, speed limit assistance, and traffic-sign recognition for the new model year.
Cadillac borrowed from the new Lyriq electric vehicle and Escalade to create the XT4’s touchscreen system. It stretches 33 inches on the diagonal and functions as the SUV’s infotainment system, gauge cluster, and command center for controls and functions. It offers a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot and runs Google services, including Google Assistant, Google Play, Google Maps, and more. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto offer wireless smartphone connectivity, and Amazon Alexa comes standard. All 2024 XT4 trims are available with a 13-speaker AKG premium audio system.
The XT4 sees significant competition from several cream-of-the-crop luxury SUVs. Buyers may look at the excellent and engaging BMW X3, which offers a surprisingly connected and fun driving experience. The Audi Q3 brings a fantastic interior and advanced tech, while the Mercedes-Benz GLB brings upright SUV utility to the party.
