The Audi E-tron line of electric vehicles (EVs) has grown since its inception to include a GT model and a Q4 variant, and now Audi’s updating the lineup with a new name and upgraded specs. Audi has renamed the original E-tron, now known as the Q8 E-tron. It features fast charging, an improved interior, and three powertrain choices.

Audi offers the new Q8 E-tron with two battery sizes, the largest of which offers 114 kWh. The German luxury automaker says that the EV balances comfort and sporty driving dynamics and notes much-improved aerodynamics. At the same time, the SUV comes packed with recycled and sustainable materials, including synthetic leathers and microfibers made from recycled PET water bottles.

The 2024 Q8 E-tron looks similar to its predecessor but features a refreshed face and styling. It gets an inverted grille and the new version of Audi’s four-ring logo. Revised headlights get an LED light bar accent, and Audi adds new spoilers in the front to improve airflow. The overall look is closer to the Q4 E-tron, and air suspension comes standard to adjust the vehicle’s ride height up to 3 inches.

The Q8’s interior is a modern, upscale space with screens galore. Audi includes a panoramic glass roof with blackout shades and dual-zone climate controls, but buyers can upgrade to a four-zone setup. Three-stage ventilated seats, along with pneumatic seat adjustments and massage functions, are available. Wood veneers are available with high-end materials like grainy ash and sycamore, and Audi offers aluminum or carbon fiber for the S-Line models.

2024 Audi Q8 E-tron Specs

The base Q8 E-tron gets two electric motors that combine to make 335 horsepower. The driving range is 305 miles for the SUV and 314 miles for the Sportback on the WLTP standard. The upgraded models still get two motors, but the output climbs to 402 hp. They offer 361 miles of range for the SUV and 373 for the Sportback. Range-topping SQ8 models get three motors for a total of 496 hp and deliver 307 miles of range in the SUV and 318 for the Sportback.

The Q8 gets larger batteries than its predecessor, with up to 114-kWh capacity. Audi says the standard EV can charge at up to 150 kW when using a capable charger, and the upgraded powertrains can charge at up to 170 kW. That means it can recharge from 10 to 80 percent in 31 minutes, according to Audi. Audi says that using a wallbox or home charging station, the base Q8 E-tron can recharge in nine hours and 15 minutes.

2024 Audi Q8 E-tron Safety

Audi didn’t divulge details on the Q8’s safety equipment, but it should be similar to the gear we saw in the standard E-tron. That means lane-departure warningautomatic emergency brakingblind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, parking sensors, and more. Audi says buyers can equip the Q8 E-tron with up to five cameras, five radar sensors, and 12 ultrasonic sensors, enabling active parking assistance. The system lets the driver control the vehicle from their smartphone to park in tight spots.

U.S. regulators recently relaxed rules on matrix headlights, so we’re finally able to see the high-tech lighting systems Audi has sold in Europe for years. The matrix system can sense oncoming cars and pedestrians and “black out” part of its light beam to avoid blinding other people. The lights also help the driver maintain control by lighting specific parts of the road ahead.

2024 Audi Q8 E-tron Technology

All Q8 E-tron models get two high-resolution displays. The upper touchscreen measures 10.1 inches, and the bottom screen is 8.6 inches. Audi says the two replace almost all the vehicle’s physical knobs and controls. The automaker’s excellent digital cockpit system comes standard and brings a high-def configurable display that can show maps, audio information, and other data. Navigation, an LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, and more are also on board.

2024 Audi Q8 E-tron Competitors

Audi’s EVs offer upscale interiors and sporty driving dynamics, but they haven’t always brought the best range. The new Q8 E-tron improves that situation, helping Audi compete against the growing competition. Buyers may also consider the Tesla Model X or Model Y. Both offer comparable range and luxury, but their interiors are sparse and won’t appeal to everyone. The BMW iX is a bit larger and more expensive, but Mercedes-Benz may have serious competition for Audi with the new EQB SUV, which will offer a similar range and equipment at a competitive price.
