The Range Rover Sport is an icon of luxury and off-roading prowess, and for 2023 the SUV enters its third generation. The new model year brings updated styling, clever off-road assist technologies, a range of hybrid engines, and new technology. Land Rover offers four trim levels on the new Range Rover Sport: SE, SE Dynamic, Autobiography, and a limited First Edition.
The Range Rover Sport slots into the Land Rover catalog beneath the standard Range Rover, which is larger and more expensive than the Sport. The previous-generation Range Rover Sport was over 6 inches shorter and drastically cheaper than the full-fat model. Though renewed, the Range Rover Sport’s exterior is instantly recognizable. The SUV features short overhangs for good approach and departure angles, and Land Rover says the model is the first to get a new surface LED lighting technology. A sleek shape helps the Range Rover Sport achieve a drag coefficient of just 0.29, and the automaker says it fitted the longest spoiler ever on a Land Rover for the new model year.
The new Range Rover Sport gets a refined version of the “Command Driving Position,” which is Land Rover’s way of saying the driver’s seat is elevated within the cabin for better visibility and ergonomics. The front seats are 22-way power-adjustable and feature heating, ventilation, memory, and massaging. Rear-seat passengers see almost a full inch of additional legroom and 0.3 inches better knee room than previous model years. A new cabin air purification system helps reduce odors and, according to Land Rover, can even remove the virus that causes COVID-19. The system also works while the vehicle is stationary.
Land Rover uses microphones mounted in the SUV’s wheel arches to monitor road noise and process the appropriate noise-canceling response. Interior sound levels and type change with the driving mode, such as with sportier settings, where engineers amplified the vehicle’s engine sound.
Land Rover offers four powertrains in the new Range Rover Sport. The entry-level P360 SE trim gets a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 with a mild-hybrid system that makes 355 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The P400 SE Dynamic trim is the next step up and gets a massaged version of the inline-6 that produces 395 hp and 406 pound-feet of torque. The P44e Autobiography gets a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a turbocharged inline-6 that delivers 434 hp and 619 pound-feet of torque. The range-topping Range Rover Sport P530 First Edition comes with a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 that makes 523 hp and 553 pound-feet of torque. All 2023 Range Rover Sport SUVs come with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
The P400e’s electrified powertrain features a 105-kW electric motor and a 31.8-kWh battery. Land Rover has not disclosed the driving range for the powertrain but says that it can propel the SUV from zero-to-60 mph in just 5.5 seconds. The automaker says the V8 engine can make the run in 4.3 seconds.
Land Rover offers a new terrain driving system, which lets the driver dial in better performance off-road. A new available off-road adaptive cruise control system can monitor ground conditions and maintain vehicle speed over varying terrain. The SUV is available with all-wheel steering and brake-based torque vectoring. The rear wheels can turn up to 7.3 degrees to improve the Sport’s turning radius that Land Rover says rivals a hatchback.

The 2023 Range Rover Sport comes with the latest version of Land Rover’s Pivi Pro infotainment system. It features over-the-air updates and runs on a floating, curved 13.1-inch touchscreen. Joining the massive center display is a 13.7-inch digital gauge cluster with configurable layouts. Amazon Alexa functionality is also standard and works without a smartphone. Other features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wireless device charger.
