In a tribute to the revered Swedish custom of the summer solstice, Volvo has joined forces with the American-Swedish contemporary artist, Shai Dahan, to emblazon a fully electric Volvo C40 Recharge with a handcrafted, vibrant depiction of Midsummer in New York City.
In a remarkable blend of nature and Scandinavian folklore, an idyllic mural teeming with vivid flowers symbolizing the spirit of both Swedish and New York City will adorn the compact luxury SUV's streamlined form. The selection of the fully electric C40 Recharge as the medium for this expressive artwork stands as a testament to Volvo’s unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability and its ambitious goal of becoming entirely electric by 2030 and carbon neutral by 2040.
Los Angeles-born and currently a resident of Sweden, Dahan has made a name for himself as an American-Swedish contemporary painter and street artist. His dynamic, color-saturated public artworks, which celebrate cultural diversity and address social issues, have earned him significant recognition. Dahan’s work has been widely showcased in various exhibitions and publications, and he has been honored with numerous awards and grants for his substantial contributions to the arts.
Volvo cordially invites the public to observe Dahan’s artistic process in the Volvo Studio Manhattan at 565 Eleventh Avenue, New York, NY 10036. Attendees can view the creation unfold from June 13 through 16 and June 19 through 20, between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. The final revelation of the adorned car will occur on June 22 at 6:30 P.M., amidst a Midsummer celebration at the Studio, which extends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
After the festive unveiling, the C40 Recharge will be exhibited at the Swedish Midsummer Festival's 25th anniversary, sponsored by the Consulate General of Sweden, in Rockefeller Park on June 23, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Guests can immerse themselves in an array of traditional Swedish activities, including dancing around the Midsummer pole, crafting flower wreaths, and sampling traditional Swedish delicacies.
The 2023 Volvo C40 Recharge is priced starting from $55,300 MSRP.
The new 2027 BMW i3 boasts an estimated range of up to 440 miles, 400-kilowatt DC fast charging capability, bidirectional charging to a home or the grid, and next-generation technology.
