In America, it is often said that if you don’t go big, you should just go home. Size, strength, and sheer volume rule, whether you need it or not. And when it comes to large heavy-duty pickup trucks, towing and hauling numbers matter just as much as acceleration times do for a sports car.

That’s why Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has found a way to eke out an extra 75 lb.-ft. of torque and an additional 100 pounds of towing capacity for the 2021 Ram Heavy Duty.
When properly equipped, a Ram 3500 fitted with the high-output version of the optional Cummins 6.7-liter turbo-diesel inline six-cylinder engine generates 1,075 lb.-ft. of torque and can tow 37,100 pounds of gooseneck trailer. Using a conventional hitch, the maximum tow capacity measures 23,000 lbs. A Ram 3500 can also carry up to 7,650 lbs. of payload, depending on specification.
To achieve the new milestones, Ram and Cummins collaborated to increase the engine’s fuel system flow rate and turbocharger boost. Additionally, to support the new capabilities, Ram upgraded the Heavy Duty’s rear frame, rear-axle structural cross-member, 5th-wheel and gooseneck hitch provisions, and trailer wiring connections.
Another update for 2021 is the availability of a new rear camera mirror. It is optional on all Heavy Duty models, and it provides an unobstructed view to the rear of the truck.
FCA says the 2021 Ram Heavy Duty will arrive in dealerships by the end of 2020.
