Mazda announced prices for the 2021 Mazda3 lineup, and the new turbocharged version of the car starts at $29,900, a $9,400 premium over the new Mazda3 2.0i base model, which is priced at $20,500. Destination charges amount to another $945.
Injecting newfound performance into the Mazda3 lineup and hearkening back to the company’s past driving enthusiast favorite, the Mazdaspeed 3, the new 2021 Mazda3 2.5 Turbo is equipped with the same turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine found in the Mazda6, Mazda CX-5, and Mazda CX-9. It makes 250 horsepower and 320 lb.-ft. of torque using premium fuel, or 227 hp and 310 lb.-ft. running the car on regular.
To ensure all of the power gets to the pavement, all-wheel drive is standard. Mazda uses a 6-speed automatic transmission with a Sport mode and paddle shifters with this engine, but a manual gearbox remains available for the 2021 Mazda3 Hatchback 2.5 Premium.
Available in both 4-door sedan and 5-door hatchback body styles, the 2021 Mazda3 2.5 Turbo is offered in standard or Premium Plus trim. The price increase for the Premium Plus amounts to $2,550 for the sedan and $2,850 for the hatchback. It includes a sportier front air dam and rear spoiler along with leather seats, a navigation system, and new, exclusive i-ActivSense driving assistance systems such as traffic jam assistance, rear automatic braking, and a high-definition surround-view camera system.
Mazda also announced a BBS forged aluminum 18-inch wheel option for all 2021 Mazda3 models, painted black and priced at a very specific $918.95. Aerodynamic styling kits are exclusive to the Mazda3 2.5 Turbo, giving the car a racier appearance. They cost $1,900 without Premium Plus trim, or $1,075 with it. The only other options are extra-cost paint colors including Snowflake White Pearl Mica ($395), Machine Gray Metallic ($495), and Soul Red Crystal ($595).
Expect the new Mazda3 2.5 Turbo to go on sale by the end of 2020.
