Mazda’s most popular model is the CX-5 compact SUV, and that’s true by a wide margin. As such, the automaker keeps the CX-5 fresh and appealing, and that’s true for the 2021 model year.
The changes for the 2021 Mazda CX-5 include a new Mazda Connect infotainment system with a 10.25-inch display screen. Standard across the lineup, the screen is controlled by a rotary dial and buttons located on the center console, by controls on the steering wheel, and by voice commands. The touchscreen function is gone for 2021. With the new infotainment system, every version of the CX-5 now includes standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone projection as well as a free three-year trial of Mazda Connected Services with an available Wi-Fi hotspot.
A new Touring Preferred SV Package debuts for 2021, giving buyers of the CX-5 Touring access to several features previously reserved for the CX-5 Grand Touring. It includes leather upholstery, a Bose premium sound system, a power liftgate, a moonroof, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and power-adjustable front seats. A new Carbon Edition trim level is also available for the 2021 model year, based on the Touring and offered with either of the CX-5’s available engines.
With Sport, Touring, Carbon Edition, and Grand Touring trim, the 2021 Mazda CX-5 includes a 187-horsepower 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. Optional for the Carbon Edition, and standard with Grand Touring Reserve and Signature trim, a turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder stirs up 250 horsepower and 320 lb.-ft. of torque, as long as you use 93-octane fuel. Using regular 87-octane gas lowers those figures to 227 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. A Turbo badge for turbocharged CX-5 models is new for 2021.
Other changes for 2021, and available only with CX-5 Signature trim, include a driver attention monitoring system, a rear automatic emergency braking, and a new high-definition camera for the surround-view system.
Mazda also spelled out prices for the 2021 CX-5. Including the $1,100 destination charge, they are as follows, with price differences from the 2020 models:
Adding all-wheel drive to 2021 Mazda CX-5 costs an additional $1,400. Keep in mind, though, that the top two trim levels have standard AWD. You’ll see the 2021 Mazda CX-5 in dealer showrooms starting in September of 2020.
