2021 Lexus IS Price Reflects Big Improvement for Small Premium

Christian Wardlaw | Oct 01, 2020

Based on last year’s car, the 2021 Lexus IS might not be a clean-sheet redesign, but it nevertheless represents a significant improvement. Lexus thoroughly retunes the driving dynamics, debuts next-generation advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS), and installs a new touchscreen infotainment system with a larger display. Lexus restyles almost every exterior panel, too, giving the car a more technical and aggressive look.

In exchange for these modifications, Lexus customers will fork over an additional $440 in terms of the base price. The 2021 Lexus IS starts at $39,000, not including a destination charge of $1,025. That’s what you’ll pay for the IS 300 with rear-wheel drive and a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. Add all-wheel drive, which pairs with a more powerful 3.5-liter V-6, and the IS 300 AWD runs another $2,000.

All 2021 Lexus IS 350 models have F Sport trim for the new model year. With rear-wheel drive, the car costs $42,900. A new IS 350 AWD F Sport starts at $44,900.

With the Lexus GS’s departure from the company’s lineup, the Lexus IS serves as the automaker’s sole sport sedan. It competes with a wide range of similar models, including the Acura TLX, Alfa Romeo Giulia, Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Cadillac CT5, Genesis G70, Infiniti Q50, Jaguar XE, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and Volvo S60.

Lexus continues to make a two-pronged assault on the affordable luxury segment. The company’s ES model, a larger vehicle focused on delivering a plusher luxury car experience, continues as an alternative to both the IS and the long list of vehicles listed above. Now that all of its direct competition has left the market, you could say the Lexus ES stands alone in a class of one.
