Additions and subtractions are operative words regarding the 2025 Volvo lineup for the United States. The brand welcomes two all-electric models: the flagship EX90 three-row SUV and the much-delayed EX30 compact crossover. At the same time, Volvo is hitting the pause button on the C40 Recharge, although it says that the model will return in 2026 with a new name—EC40. Following a short (now complete) production run for 2025, the S60 sedan bids farewell to the American car market.

Changes to the individual 2025 Volvo model lines are listed below alphabetically.
Volvo has renamed the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) C40 Recharge the EC40 globally, but it will not be available in the U.S. market for the 2025 model year. Volvo says it will return—as the EC40—for 2026. Existing C40 inventory at U.S. Volvo retailers will bridge the gap until the EC40 arrives.
Volvo unveiled the EX30 in June 2023, and the compact crossover swiftly rose to the top of the European electric car market. However, a series of U.S. government actions prompted Volvo Cars to slow its release here. Now, the most popular variant—the EX30 Twin Motor Performance—is on sale in the U.S. in Plus and Ultra trims. Equipped with two motors producing a combined 422 horsepower, the all-wheel-drive (AWD) crossover offers the fastest acceleration of any Volvo.
Volvo says the EX30’s 69-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery pack can charge from 10 to 80 percent in just over 25 minutes. The automaker says the expected range on a full charge is 253 miles.
The SUV formerly known as the XC40 Recharge undergoes significant changes in nomenclature, styling, equipment levels, and powertrain for 2025.
First, Volvo renames it EX40 and the Ultimate trim level changes to Ultra. New styling features include EX40 sill molding and revised rear badging. Volvo refreshes the small SUV’s equipment levels with power-folding headrests, an optional contrast black roof on the Plus trim, and a standard contrast black roof on the Ultra. Lastly, the Twin Motor version has an upgraded 82-kWh battery and an enhanced 205-kilowatt DC fast-charging rate.
The new-for-2025 Volvo EX90 is a fully electric SUV that ushers in a new era for Volvo automobiles. With a range of up to 300 miles between charges, Volvo built the seven-passenger SUV to maximize safety and efficiency, while providing pleasing aesthetics inside and out. It offers Twin Motor and Twin Motor Performance AWD options with a 111-kWh battery. The standard version delivers 402 hp while the Performance variant provides 510 hp, both promising 30-minute DC fast charging.
The three-row SUV boasts sophisticated sensing technologies, including lidar, radar, and cameras, to increase the dependability of its assisted-driving features, plus a full-featured Google-based infotainment system with a 14.5-inch center screen.
Following a brief production run for the 2025 model year, it’s curtains for the S60 compact luxury sedan. Volvo Cars has ended S60 production at its Ridgeville, South Carolina, plant, and the automaker will no longer offer the car in the U.S. market once it sells the remaining 2025 inventory. Volvo announced no changes for the 2025 S60.
Following a short production run, Volvo no longer offers the 2025 S90 T8 PHEV sedan in the U.S. market, while the S90 B6 mild-hybrid variant remains available to order. Regarding changes, the Ultimate trim becomes the Ultra. There are no other significant changes to the 2025 S90.
The only revision to the V60 Cross Country wagon lineup for 2025 is a name change for its top-level trim; the former Ultimate is now known as the Ultra.
The V90 Cross Country soldiers on essentially unchanged for 2025. As is the theme this year, the Ultimate trim is renamed Ultra. Volvo also deletes the front-seat backrest massage feature from the Ultra’s standard equipment list; buyers can now purchase it as an option.
The Volvo XC40 carries over virtually unchanged from 2024. The former Ultimate trim level is now known as the Ultra, one paint color disappears with another added, and power-folding headrests join the Core trim.
Volvo changes the XC60's equipment options, powertrain, appearance, and name for 2025. A new moniker for the Ultimate trim is Ultra, while the Recharge version is now the T8 AWD plug-in hybrid. The powertrain switches to a new Miller-cycle B5 engine, and Volvo modifies the crossover’s sill moldings and rear badging.
Inside, synthetic leather is now standard on the Plus trim, while leather is an optional interior upgrade. Elsewhere, motorized folding headrests and laminated side windows are trim-level improvements.
Volvo Cars has ended production of the V60 Polestar Engineered trim.
The 2025.5 Volvo XC90 receives significant design and technology upgrades, enhancing its status as the brand’s flagship hybrid SUV. The redesigned front end, featuring a sleeker version of the signature T-shaped "Thor’s Hammer" headlights, offers a high-tech look aligned with Volvo’s electric models.
Inside, Volvo reconfigures the three-row cabin with premium materials, improved sound insulation, and a new free-standing center display. Volvo says technical updates, including an improved chassis with advanced damper technology, boost comfort without sacrificing handling. The XC90 T8 eAWD PHEV powertrain offers 33 miles of all-electric range and power application reminiscent of a battery-electric vehicle.
