Changes to the 2024 VinFast Models

Jack R. Nerad | Mar 18, 2024

VinFast is a Southeast Asian-based vehicle manufacturer that began marketing battery-electric crossover SUVs in the United States in 2022 and began making North American deliveries in 2023. Its entry model in the U.S. market is the 2-row, 5-passenger VinFast VF 8. The brand has also announced the imminent availability of a 3-row, 7-passenger battery-electric crossover, the VF 9. VinFast says the VF 9 SUV will offer an Environmental Protection Agency-certified range of up to 330 miles on a charge.

2024 VinFast VF 8 Changes

For the 2024 model year, VinFast adds Eco and Plus trim levels to the VF 8 lineup and drops the City Edition, its initial U.S. entry. The two new trims have a new battery pack that extends their range. The Eco trim offers 349 horsepower and a 264-mile range. The Plus offers 402 hp and a 243-mile range. VinFast tweaks the SUV's suspension for 2024 to improve its handling capabilities.

2024 VinFast VF 9 Changes

The VinFast VF 9 is a 7-passenger battery-electric SUV styled by Italian design house Pininfarina and manufactured in VinFast's factory in Vietnam. Priced from about $80,000, the VF 9 features a dual-motor powertrain with a combined 402 hp. With an attractive upscale interior to match its well-tailored exterior styling, the VF 9 hopes to find a place in the upper middle of the electric-powered SUV market. The VF 9 offers an array of advanced driver assistance systems, including Level 2 semi-autonomous driving capabilities, and it will accept over-the-air updates. VinFast says it will begin U.S. deliveries of the VF 9 in the fourth quarter of 2023, but at this writing, visitors to its website can only reserve a vehicle for later delivery.
