The Polestar brand expects to introduce its Polestar 3 battery-electric crossover SUV to the American market as a 2024 model. It will supplement the Polestar 2 battery-electric hatchback, which gets a serious makeover for the new model year. Polestar has transitioned from a racing team to a performance arm of the Volvo brand and finally to a standalone electric-vehicle (EV) brand with very close Volvo ties. It is part of the China-based Geely automotive conglomerate that controls Polestar, Volvo, and several other auto brands.

The 2024 Polestar 2 hatchback presents a handsome new face, but there is more to the model-year changes than simple cosmetics. Polestar has virtually transformed the 2, giving it more range, faster recharge times, and making it more efficient. If that weren't enough, the brand also switches the base single-motor version of the car from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive. You will see few auto manufacturers making that kind of change.
Thanks to a new 82-kWh battery and more efficient drive motor, the long-range single-motor Polestar 2 has a range of 320 miles on a charge. Polestar engineers also upped max charging to 205 kW. According to the automaker, going from a 10-percent charge to 80 percent can take as little as 28 minutes. Polestar engineers increased the horsepower of the base dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) version (to 421 hp) while giving the trim 10 miles of added range. The highest-performing Polestar 2 offers drivers 455 hp and 546 pound-feet of torque with the optional Performance Pack.
Lastly, a new front fascia (don't call it a grille) is the most obvious external change for 2024.
The 2024 Polestar 3 small crossover SUV promises to be a big part of what should be an expanded Polestar presence in 2024. The quick AWD SUV seats five and has clever storage solutions, including a grocery bag holder and a tiny "frunk" (front trunk). That way, drivers can enjoy manufacturer-claimed 4.5-second zero-to-60-mph times while toting a bunch of their stuff.
The base dual-motor Polestar 3 delivers 489 combined horsepower. With the Performance Pack, that increases to 517 hp. Polestar equips the last model with a 111-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and it says recharge (10- to 80-percent) takes as little as 30 minutes when utilizing a DC fast charger at 250 kW.
Inside, the Polestar 3 features a 9-inch instrument display, a 14.5-inch center infotainment display, and a head-up display. The interior reflects the ecological ethos of the brand with "animal welfare certified wool" and "animal welfare traced Nappa leather." In any case, the interiors are clean, fresh, and inviting, with a fixed panoramic roof letting in plenty of sunlight.
