Changes to the 2022 Land Rover Models

Liz Kim | Nov 05, 2021

For 2022, Land Rover makes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone projection standard equipment across the board. It's not wireless, though, so you'll still need that cord. The new-for-2021 Defender has the most extensive list of changes for the year, but what's really keeping fans on their toes is the introduction of the fifth-generation Range Rover, Land Rover's flagship SUV.

Here are other changes to individual model lines, listed below in alphabetical order.

2022 Land Rover Defender Changes - Find the best Land Rover deals!

Land Rover revealed the all-new Defender for the 2021 model year with a multitude of configurations and off-road capability for adventuring beyond the paved road. For 2022, Land Rover debuts a brawny 518-horsepower supercharged V8 to get you to your destination even faster. An enhanced 4-wheel-drive system supports it with a new electronic rear differential, beefed-up anti-sway bars, and stiffer bushings. In addition, you can opt for the new V8 Carpathian Edition design enhancements.

Defender fans also love personalizing their vehicles; for 2022, you'll find two new trim levels for the 2-door version of the Defender 90: X-Dynamic SE and X-Dynamic HSE. The Defender 110 XS Special also debuts. Additionally, several appearance packages called the Bright Pack, Extended Bright Pack, and Extended Black Pack avail themselves.

Finally, you can upgrade to an 11.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, while a wireless charging pad is standard across the line.

2022 Land Rover Discovery Changes - Find the best Land Rover deals!

The Discovery received some sweeping changes for the 2021 model year, so for 2022, it continues with few changes to its four trim levels: S and R-Dynamic S, which have the turbocharged, 296-hp, 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine, and the R-Dynamic S and R-Dynamic HSE with the mild-hybrid turbocharged, 355-hp inline-6 engine.

2022 Land Rover Discovery Sport Changes - Find the best Land Rover deals!

The affordable Discovery Sport serves as the entry-level Land Rover. For 2022, all Discovery Sports include heated front seats, a power liftgate, and a wireless charging pad as standard equipment. For those seeking additional passenger flexibility, third-row seating is possible with the Third Row pack, which features cooling vents and USB ports for all three rows.

For the final year of the current-generation Range Rover, Land Rover focuses the lineup by deleting the diesel and plug-in hybrid variants. A new Dynamic Black Edition and SV Autobiography trim level enhance its appearance and gild an already opulent interior.

Curiously, Land Rover is introducing the all-new fifth-generation Range Rover as a 2022 model and will sell it alongside the current Range Rover, which debuted in 2013. The redesigned 2022 Range Rover will feature one of two powertrains: a turbocharged, 395-hp 3.0-liter inline-6 engine with mild-hybrid technology or a twin-turbocharged, 523-hp V8. The new Range Rover will be offered in regular- and long-wheelbase variants. As befits Land Rover's flagship, it boasts a lengthy list of luxury, safety, and high-tech features.

2022 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Changes - Find the best Land Rover deals!

The fancier cousin of the Discovery Sport (the two models share the same vehicle platform), the Range Rover Evoque gets similar changes, with a newly standard wireless charging pad, power liftgate, and heated seats across the lineup.

Also, a new HST trim level debuts, featuring a 296-hp mild-hybrid engine and blackened visual elements, including 20-inch black wheels through which red calipers peep.

For 2022, Land Rover pares down the Range Rover Sport's engine choices to the turbocharged, 355- or 395-hp 3.0-liter inline-6 and the supercharged, 518- or 575-hp 5.0-liter V8. Unfortunately, this means you can no longer get a diesel or plug-in hybrid. Otherwise, the only change is the addition of a USB-C port for the second row.

2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar Changes - Find the best Land Rover deals!

For 2022, the midsize Range Rover Velar has standard heated front seats, while adaptive cruise control with steering assist is more widely available across the lineup. A hill-descent control feature also makes its debut on the standard features list. In addition, the Auric Edition appearance package is all-new for 2022.
