Can you guess what the best-selling plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) is in both North America and Europe? It’s the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, and its success proves that electrified Jeeps will sell.
That’s good news for Jeep’s parent company, Stellantis. It plans to roll out numerous electrified and pure electric vehicle (EV) models in the years ahead, from a production version of the Chrysler Airflow Concept to an electric Ram pickup truck. However, one of the most intriguing of the automaker’s upcoming models is the 2025 Jeep Recon EV.

Jeep says the new 2025 Recon is about the size of a Wrangler and has a Skyslider retractable roof, windows that lower or come off the vehicle, and removable doors. It doesn’t look like a Wrangler, though styling cues such as the seven-slot grille, upright windshield, and exposed door hinges are present and accounted for. Instead, imagine what would happen if you mashed up a Ford Bronco Sport with a Rivian R1S. That’s the Jeep Recon in a nutshell. But with the open-air driving experience you want in a Jeep.
Jeep says the Recon will be “Rubicon ready” right out of the box. Additionally, the company confirms that the Recon will have a “frunk” (front trunk) and will be available with numerous Jeep Performance Parts that will allow owners to customize the SUV to the limits of their budgets. Jeep will build the Recon in North America, and it will arrive in 2024. Reservations open in early 2023.

The new 2025 Jeep Recon will share its platform and other components with another battery-electric model that is currently called the Wagoneer S. Introduced by Stellantis designer Ralph Gilles, the Wagoneer’s “S” stands for “speed,” “striking,” and “sexy.” But it could also translate to “small” since this 2-row electric Jeep Wagoneer is a D-segment (midsize in the United States) SUV.
According to Jeep, the Wagoneer S will offer 600 horsepower, acceleration to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, and 400 miles of driving range on a full battery. It will not, however, be a Trail Rated Jeep. Instead, said Jeep’s Jim Morrison, “this is going to be a blast to drive.”

In other news, Jeep confirmed that PHEV versions of the full-size Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are coming, offering up to 500 miles of total range between electricity and gas. Jeep is dusting off Dodge’s old Avenger nameplate in Europe and gluing it to a subcompact EV that it won’t offer in America.
According to the automaker, by 2025, every Jeep model will offer an electrified powertrain. By 2030, Jeep says half of all its sales will be battery-electric models.
