The Chevrolet Suburban is one of the longest-running automotive nameplates of all time, but the full-size family hauler has received several updates over the years to keep it on top of its game. Chevy redesigned the SUV in 2021, giving it modern tech and refreshed styling. To keep it fresh, the automaker is giving it another overhaul for the 2025 model year. The updates include refreshed interior and exterior styling, a revised diesel engine with more power, fresh tech, and more safety equipment.

Chevrolet offers the 2025 Suburban in six trim levels: LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country. Three engines are available, including two V8s and a turbodiesel, and buyers can add off-road packages and equipment. According to Chevrolet, the 2025 Suburban will go on sale in late 2024. Pricing details will become available closer to the launch day.

The new Suburban gets an updated front fascia with unique finishes depending on the trim level. Chevy also revised the SUV's wheel choices with options ranging up to 24 inches, and a new lighting system brings updated LED daytime running lights, new welcome/departure animations, and more. The off-road-oriented Z71 trim gets skid plates and a reshaped front fascia that offers better ground clearance, while the range-topping High Country trim adds plenty of chrome.

Chevy revised the Suburban's interior with a new center console design that orients the screen toward the driver, and the SUV gets a new steering wheel design. The RST trim adds red stitching, while the Premier gets black and grey accents. High Country buyers now get more wood and perforated leather upholstery. Other trims pick up additional color options and a lower dash prioritizing outward visibility.
Three powertrains are on offer in the 2025 Suburban. The base engine is a 5.3-liter V8, making 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. A 6.2-liter V8 is available that makes 420 hp and 460 pound-feet. The upgraded optional 3.0-liter diesel produces 305 hp and 495 pound-feet of torque. Chevy pairs all of the new Suburban's engines with a 10-speed automatic transmission and either rear- or 4-wheel drive.
Chevy improves the Suburban's suspension system for 2025, giving it a new multi-link design for better handling and a smoother ride. Adaptive air suspension and GM's excellent Magnetic Ride Control (MRC) are available, depending on the trim, and the automaker offers the adaptive air suspension system on the RST trim for the first time. The MRC system reads the road as many as 1,000 times per second to adjust damping settings and ride quality. Towing reaches 8,200 pounds when the Suburban is properly equipped.
In addition to its other enhancements, the new Suburban gets safety improvements, including a new interior motion-detection system that can detect micro-movements in the cabin. A connected camera system lets owners view the inside of the SUV from a smartphone, and Chevy Safety Assist comes standard. The package brings automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, pedestrian and bicycle detection, lane-keeping assistance, and more. Super Cruise hands-free technology is also available.
As of this writing, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has crash-tested the 2025 Suburban. However, the structurally similar 2024 model received four out of five stars overall from the NHTSA.

A massive 17.7-inch touchscreen comes standard on the 2025 Suburban, along with an 11-inch digital gauge cluster. Chevrolet's infotainment system is responsive and easy to use. It also brings a long list of standard features, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, USB inputs, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, and more. Chevy mounts the new screen angled slightly toward the driver for easier viewing and less glare.
The Chevrolet Suburban is a segment-spanning SUV that shoppers can consider against a wide range of models. Its most likely competitor is the Chevy Tahoe, with which it shares much of its underlying engineering. The Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are excellent choices with expansive interior space and great features. Buyers may also eye the Ford Expedition or GMC Yukon. On the luxury side, the Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator are solid alternatives. However, they're priced considerably higher than the Suburban.
