After years of speculation, Chevrolet has taken the wraps off the fastest, most powerful Corvette ever—the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. In the process, Chevy takes the iconic American sports car’s performance to new heights.
Available in coupe or hardtop convertible body styles, the new ZR1 “King of the Hill,” as Chevrolet calls it, sits atop the 2025 Corvette lineup, lording over the Stingray, Z06, and hybrid-powered E-Ray. A twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 engine sends 1,064 horsepower to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT).
With over 1,000 hp on tap, it’s easy to get tunnel vision and focus solely on the car’s engine. However, the new ZR1 has quite a few aerodynamics and powertrain cooling tricks up its sleeve, intending to increase performance.
At the front, a flow-through hood, front underwing, and carbon-fiber splitter manage airflow. Along the sides, rocker moldings and intakes with integrated brake cooling provide additional airflow management. At the rear, inlets atop the coupe's rear hatch help cool the turbos, and there’s a small spoiler. The carbon fiber roof reduces mass and lowers the car’s center of gravity, while the optional ZTK performance package includes a high-downforce rear wing, among other goodies.
However, perhaps the ZR1’s most notable exterior design element is the split rear window, which hasn’t appeared on a regular-production Corvette since the 1960s. Not just a visual homage to the second-generation Corvette (aka C2), the ZR1’s rear window features a carbon fiber “spine” in the center that helps extract heat from the engine compartment. (Remember, starting with the new C8 in 2020, the Corvette is now a mid-engine design.)
New exterior colors include Competition Yellow, Hysteria Purple, and Sebring Orange, the latter available on the previous-generation ZR1. Other exterior options include full-length racing stripes and painted brake calipers.
The new ZR1 also has some distinguishing features inside the car, though not nearly to the extent of the exterior. The obligatory ZR1 badging and decals are found on an interior plaque, the sill plates, and the steering wheel. A new stitch pattern adorns the doors and is available on the Corvette 3LZ trim. And, for the first time in a Corvette, a boost gauge lets you know how hard the turbochargers are working. Beyond that, the interior is essentially the same.
At the heart of the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is a newly designed, twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 engine that, thanks to many custom performance upgrades, cranks out an astounding 1,064 hp at 7,000 rpm. This is notable for a couple of reasons: It’s the first time a turbocharger has ever appeared on a factory-produced Corvette, and it’s the first time in the storied sports car’s history that the engine has eclipsed the 1,000-hp mark.
The engine also produces a prodigious 828 pound-feet of torque at 6,000 rpm, which it routes to the rear wheels via an eight-speed DCT. Some hardcore enthusiasts may lament the lack of a manual transmission option, but today’s automatics typically shift faster. If speed and performance are the goals (and, with the ZR1, they most certainly are), then a manual should be a non-starter.
Not surprisingly, the ZR1 comes with GM’s fast-reacting Magnetic Ride Control suspension. Opt for the ZTK package mentioned above and you get stiffer springs as well as Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, which replace the standard Michelin Pilot Sport 4S rubber. Standard wheels are made of aluminum—20 inches up front and 21 inches in the rear—and available in four colors, including the traditional ZR1 color Edge Blue. Chevy offers optional carbon fiber wheels that reduce the car’s weight by 42.8 pounds.
With all that power on tap, it’s no surprise the ZR1 has some serious performance cred, at least from Chevy’s perspective. The automaker claims the ZR1 can blitz the quarter mile in less than 10 seconds and reach a top speed of over 215 mph. Chevy didn’t quote a zero-to-60-mph time for the ZR1, possibly because it can’t outperform the electrified Corvette E-Ray in that regard. Still, the car’s light weight (the coupe weighs 3,670 pounds) no doubt aids its performance.
Chevrolet didn’t mention fuel economy, but on a racetrack, suffice it to say you will likely go through the 18.5-gallon fuel tank rather quickly.
Chevrolet didn’t specify the ZR1’s safety equipment, though it will likely closely mirror the Z06. Likewise, images supplied by Chevrolet suggest the ZR1 has the same infotainment system as other Corvettes. However, the automaker went into extensive detail about the car’s enhanced engine technology.
The new ZR1 employs a cadre of engineering tweaks and new technologies to push the performance envelope. Using the Z06’s normally aspirated 5.5-liter V8 (“LT6”) as its foundation, Chevy engineers made many enhancements, including (but not limited to):

As a 1,000-plus-horsepower, racing-bred two-door sports car, the Corvette ZR1 has few rivals—especially at what will likely be its price point. Cars that offer similar performance include full-fledged supercars like the Audi R8 (out of production), McLaren 720S, Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance, Nissan GT-R Nismo (soon to be out of production), and the Porsche 911, with its many iterations, including the 911 GT3 RS.
The top-spec versions of traditional muscle cars—the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170, and Ford Mustang GTD—also offer some level of competition. However, the Challenger and Camaro are now out of production. Moreover, none of those cars provide the overall performance of the ZR1.
