BMW is applying similar updates to models across its lineup, including the 2025 BMW X3, a luxury SUV based on the revered 3 Series sedan. The X3 models with this new midcycle refresh will go on sale at the end of 2024 with starting prices of just over $50,000. They will include tweaks to the exterior design, new infotainment technology, and the addition of 48-volt mild-hybrid systems on each available powertrain.

In the past, BMW used the letter "i" as a model designation for fuel injection after the model number, but now it reserves the letter for its all-electric lineup. For the 2025 model year, the BMW X3 is available in two trim levels with different powertrains: X3 30 xDrive and X3 M50 xDrive. Both have standard xDrive all-wheel drive (AWD).

The new X3 is slightly larger than before and sits lower with a wider track, which BMW says will help its agility. The sloped roofline gives the 2025 X3 a sporty look, and the base X3 30 xDrive has hidden tailpipes tucked under the vehicle. There are 21 different exterior color choices, including the new Dune Grey Metallic. An available M Sport package adds unique wheels. Upgrading to the M Sport Professional package adds red- or blue-painted brake calipers, M Shadowline lights, and Shadowline trim.

Inside the 2025 X3, the dashboard, which is available covered in woven fabric, features an expansive digital display, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and a new gear selector. Every X3 comes standard with updated heated and electrically adjustable seats, and you can choose from three different Veganza leather colors. When you fold the X3's seats flat, storage space opens to 67.1 cubic feet.
The curved display runs BMW's latest version of its iDrive infotainment system, which reduces the number of buttons within the cabin. BMW improved the system's navigation functions, and the German automaker says it'll continue to improve over time through over-the-air updates.

Like other models in its lineup, BMW equips the 2025 X3's engines with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and Miller combustion cycle to improve efficiency. The X3 30 xDrive sends power from a turbocharged four-cylinder engine through an eight-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels. The turbo four makes 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. According to BMW, zero-to-60-mph acceleration is 6.0 seconds, and the SUV’s top speed is 130 mph.
The X3 M50 upgrades to a turbocharged six-cylinder engine that produces 393 hp and 428 pound-feet of torque. BMW says it'll launch the X3 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds on its way to a 155-mph top speed when equipped with performance tires. The X3 M50 xDrive also comes standard with BMW's adaptive suspension, sportier steering, better brakes, and an M Sport rear differential for improved ride and handling. All this performance equipment is available on the base model, too.

In addition to typical driving aids like forward-collision warning and lane-keeping assistance, BMW's active parking assistance technology is standard on all 2025 X3s. An optional upgrade package enhances the system by recognizing parking space lines and curbs. The system can store up to 10 spots and run them automatically using GPS and steering movement data. Users can control the system in the car or outside with a smartphone app.
All of the BMW X3's German rivals—the Audi Q4, Mercedes-Benz GLC Class, and Porsche Macan—have electric variants to complement their core gas-powered crossover SUVs. Even the Genesis GV70 offers an electrified version. Still, the BMW X3's fourth generation brings updates that match the rest of the lineup's modern tech and hybridized engines.
