Nissan is still a significant automaker with a major global presence, but its glory days seem like a distant memory in recent times. That makes its best-selling models, like the Rogue, vitally important. The popular compact SUV is getting an update for 2024 that brings a fresh exterior appearance, expanded connected services, and a new tech interface.

The refreshed 2024 Rogue is available in four trim levels: S, SV, SL, and Platinum. It gets a variable-compression turbocharged (VC-Turbo) engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). All-wheel drive (AWD) is available. Though Nissan hasn’t yet announced pricing, the automaker said the new Rogue will go on sale in early 2024.

Nissan gives the Rogue a light makeover for 2024, which includes a revision of its signature “V-motion” grille. The SUV also has a new taillight design and satin exterior badging, and the SV trim gains fresh 18-inch wheels. The range-topping Platinum trim adds gloss-black exterior trim, unique lower fascia accents, and new 19-inch wheels.

The third-generation Rogue’s interior is light years ahead of previous versions, and Nissan adds a few refinements for 2024. The automaker offers new color options and updated door panels, console, and seat materials. Nissan also revised the Platinum trim’s brown leather with a darker color.
All 2024 Rogues get a flexible storage system with folding seats and an expanding cargo area. The second-row bench seat splits to fold 60/40, with 36.5 cubic feet of space behind it. That area expands to 74.1 cubic feet with the seats folded flat. A power liftgate is available, and you can get the top two trims with a hands-free rear hatch. An available cargo floor feature lets owners raise and lower the floor for more space, creating a hidden storage space beneath the rear load floor.

The Rogue switched from a 4-cylinder to a turbocharged 3-cylinder in 2022, giving the SUV Nissan’s clever variable-compression system. It allows the VC-Turbo engine to shift its compression ratio for better performance or fuel economy as the situation demands. The engine produces 201 horsepower and 225 pound-feet of torque and comes with a CVT and front-wheel drive or AWD.
All 2024 Rogues come standard with Nissan Safety Shield 360, which brings a load of advanced driver aids, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-departure warning, and rear automatic braking. The SV trim adds ProPilot Assist, which combines adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance to center the SUV in its lane. It can also stop the vehicle and manage traffic jam movements.
As of this writing, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) hasn’t published crash-test results for the 2024 Rogue. However, the structurally similar 2023 Rogue earned a Top Safety Pick rating for the 2023 calendar year from the Institute.
Nissan gives the 2024 Rogue a massive infotainment upgrade, which includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen with Google Built-in for the SL and Platinum trims. The system now has Google Assistant, the Google Play store, and maps available in the interface. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard, and the top two trims have wireless connectivity. The S and SV trims carry on with an 8-inch display, but it still offers CarPlay and Android Auto.
The SL and Platinum trims get a few other exclusive tech features, including Amazon Alexa functionality with audiobooks, home-device controls, and more. They also get a hybrid radio system that extends the ranges of FM radio signals and a suite of SiriusXM satellite radio features, including traffic and others.
Despite getting better every year, the Nissan Rogue has exceptionally tough competition. The Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 are its two strongest rivals, offering a range of powertrain options—including hybrids—that the Rogue does not. The Hyundai Tucson brings standout styling and an available hybrid. Additionally, the Kia Sportage got a redesign in 2023 that boosted its prospects in the crowded field.
