The new 2023 Genesis GV60 is an electric crossover based on the new Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) Electric-Global Modular Platform, or E-GMP. This same platform forms the basis of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6, and the automaker will use it for a variety of HMG models in the years to come.

Three versions of the 2023 GV60 will be available. The standard model has a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive (RWD) layout. A dual-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) propulsion system is also available. Lastly, a GV60 Performance model includes a dual-motor AWD setup with a more robust front motor for maximum acceleration.

Details below pertain to the Korean market. When the GV60 arrives in the United States, some of the information below may change.

Exterior Features

Genesis says the GV60 reflects “sustainable luxury design” and refers to its new EV as a coupe-style vehicle. You can make up your own mind about such things, but it certainly does adhere to existing SUV coupe design tenets.

Front and rear, the GV60 wears the company’s Two-Line lighting designs. The Genesis crest grille is present and accounted for but appears flipped upside down and mounted low on the GV60’s front fascia. Additional design details include a clamshell hood, digital side mirrors, and electric door handles that present themselves when the driver approaches the car with the smart key.

Genesis will offer the GV60 in 11 different colors, including four new ones to the automaker’s palette. They include Sao Paulo Lime, Hanauma Mint, Atacama Copper, and Atacama Copper Matte. Atacama Copper will be available across the Genesis lineup.

Interior Features

2023 Genesis GV60 Interior Dashboard

Inside, the new Genesis GV60 adheres to a “beauty of white space” design theme with a flat floor, floating center console, and Relaxation Comfort seats. The center console contains what Genesis calls the Crystal Sphere. When the GV60 is not running, it serves as a mood light. When the GV60 is on, the Crystal Sphere rotates to present the driver with the shifter.

Genesis says it employs eco-friendly and recycled materials within the GV60’s cabin. Highlights include plant-based leather upholstery and fabrics made from recycled PET bottles and fishing nets.

Genesis plans to use five interior colors for the new GV60. Naturally, one of them is black. Others include navy blue and 2-tone schemes pairing gray with white, green with white, and green with beige.

Under the Hood

Genesis emphasizes performance when discussing the GV60. The standard RWD model has a single 160-kW (215 hp) drive motor making 350 Nm (258 pound-feet) of torque. It provides 280 miles of range, but Genesis does not specify whether this uses NEDC or WLTP methodology.

Choose the GV60 AWD and it adds an additional 74-kW drive motor for the front wheels. Together, this setup generates 234 kW (314 hp) and 605 Nm (446 pound-feet) of torque while delivering nearly 250 miles of driving range. To maximize efficiency, the AWD model includes a Disconnector Actuator System (DAS) that allows the GV60 to operate as a RWD vehicle.

The Genesis GV60 Performance AWD has two 160-kW motors for a total of 320 kW (429 hp) and 605 Nm (446 pound-feet). More power means less range, and the Performance AWD can cover 229 miles on a charge. Remember, the quoted ranges here are not official EPA numbers, so they could be lower when the GV60 arrives in the U.S.

Boost Mode is guaranteed to reduce the driving range further. Available for 10 seconds at a time, it enables acceleration to 60 mph in about four seconds in the GV60 Performance AWD. Genesis says that an electronic limited-slip differential (e-LSD) automatically adjusts power distribution in corners and during inclement weather for improved responsiveness and handling. Inexplicably, this crossover SUV also comes with a Drift Mode. Okaaaay.

All GV60s have a 77.4-kWh battery. It features a standard conditioning system that pre-heats the battery for better performance in cold weather and shortens recharging times. A 400-volt/800-volt multi-rapid charging system facilitates battery recharging time from 10-percent capacity to 80 percent in just 18 minutes when using a 350-kW DC fast charger.

Genesis offers a Preview Electronic Control Suspension on the GV60. It uses a front camera and data from the navigation system to proactively identify upcoming road situations, such as speed bumps, and adjust the suspension in advance.

A Smart Regeneration System 2.0 is a standard braking system that automatically adjusts to traffic and navigation map data. The GV60 also offers Intelligent Pedal (i-Pedal). Use the paddle shifters to choose the strongest level of regeneration, and this feature automatically activates to make one-pedal driving available.

Through sound-deadening and Road Active Noise Control, Genesis seeks to give the GV60’s driver and passengers a silent travel experience. However, the automaker equips the vehicle with Electric Active Sound Design (e-ASD), which produces virtual driving sounds delivered through the stereo speakers. Three styles are available: Futuristic, G-Engine, and E-Motor.

Safety Systems

Genesis will offer a long list of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) on the new 2023 GV60. They include:

Additionally, the Genesis GV60 offers:

Infotainment and Technology

The Genesis GV60 debuts a next-generation infotainment system called connect car Integrated Cockpit (ccIC). It uses a panoramic display panel housing the digital instrumentation and the central information display, tying in with the head-up display. Over-the-air updates ensure it has the latest software, and they can apply to the infotainment features, electric drive systems, dynamic vehicle settings, and safety features.

Additionally, a second-generation version of HMG’s digital key technology debuts with the GV60. The GV60 is also the first Genesis model to use a high-end stereo system from Bang & Olufsen. It’s a 17-speaker setup offering Relax, Energetic, Bright, and Warm sound profiles.

Face Connect is also new. A facial-recognition technology that recognizes up to two faces, it unlocks and locks the car using nothing but your mug and a Near Infra-Red camera mounted on the center roof pillar. Genesis says it works on cloudy days and in the dark. It also adjusts all the car’s settings to that person’s preferences.

Once you’ve connected with the GV60 via your face, a Fingerprint Authentication System will start the car. This feature also serves as an authentication system for in-car payments and to activate a Valet Mode.

Lastly, a Vehicle to Load (V2L) function allows the owner to use the GV60 as a power source. It exports up to 3.6 kW of charge, more than the power supply used for a typical house.

2023 Genesis GV60 Competitors

Genesis GV60 prices will be available closer to the model’s on-sale date, but the Tesla Model Y is clearly a target. Expect the cost to reflect this positioning. Other potential competitors include the Audi Q4 E-tronCadillac Lyriq, Polestar 2, and Volvo C40 Recharge.
