Pilot Sport and TrailSport Join Lineup for 2022

Chris Teague | Oct 28, 2021

Honda announced the 2022 Pilot back in July with more standard features and better tech. Though it outlined pricing details for most of the Pilot line, Honda held back information on the bottom two trim levels of the SUV, and now we know why: Honda just announced that the base LX and EX trims are out for the 2022 model year. Two new entries replace them, including Honda’s rugged TrailSport trim.

A new Sport trim takes over for the outgoing LX, and the TrailSport steps into the middle of the lineup to keep the total Pilot count at seven:

  • Sport
  • EX-L
  • Special Edition
  • TrailSport
  • Touring
  • Elite
  • Black Edition

Shuffling trims doesn’t mean fewer standard features at the bottom end of the Pilot lineup. Indeed, the 2022 Pilot Sport gets 20-inch wheels, a full suite of advanced driving assistance system aids, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, tri-zone climate controls, and an 8-inch touchscreen.

The TrailSport is a new off-road trim introduced by Honda earlier this year. The Passport was the first Honda SUV to get the treatment, and the automaker noted that it would expand TrailSport availability to other models over time. For now, the trim is more of an appearance package, but it will evolve to include more functional upgrades over time.

The new Passport TrailSport rides on 18-inch wheels and has a 0.6-inch suspension lift for better ground clearance. Honda beefed up the SUV’s exterior with fender flares and TrailSport badging. Leather upholstery with orange stitching and embroidery graces the Pilot TrailSport’s cabin, along with a power moonroof, wireless charging, and navigation.

All 2022 Pilots come with Honda’s venerable 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. The automaker added a new 9-speed automatic transmission in 2021, which remains on board for the new model year.

The 2022 Honda Pilot Sport 2WD pricing starts at $38,055, including the $1,225 destination charge. Adding all-wheel drive bumps up the price by $2,000. Pricing for the Pilot TrailSport begins at $44,785 after destination. The new trim levels will arrive on dealers’ lots in fall 2021.
