Buick was recently named the number one overall brand in the JD Power 2022 U.S. Initial Quality Study.
Most automotive brands experienced an increase in problems this year compared to 2021. However, Buick was one of the few brands that improved substantially, with the lowest number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles during the first 90 days of ownership. Buick has been attracting new buyers to experience the brand’s unique approach to attainable luxury, providing owners with award-winning customer service and sales experiences in the process.
“At Buick, the quality of our materials, world-class manufacturing, and customer-centric design are at the forefront of everything we do,” said Duncan Aldred, Global Vice president, Buick and GMC. “Therefore, we’re very pleased, but not surprised, that Buick finished first in the JD Power 2022 U.S. Initial Quality Study.”
Initial quality is measured by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100) during the first 90 days of ownership. On this scale, lower scores reflect higher quality. Now in its 36th year, the 2022 U.S Initial Quality Study is based on responses from 84,165 purchasers and lessees surveyed early in the ownership period of 2022 model-year vehicles. The study was conducted from February through May 2022.
The JD Power IQS is based on a 223-question survey of nine vehicle categories:
The study is designed to provide automakers with data to facilitate methods to identify problems and improve their products. Receiving the most segment awards (9) of any corporation, General Motors ranked as the top corporation in this year’s study. The Buick Encore GX also performed well in the IQS, ranking first in the Small SUV segment.
