Maybe you are sick of being blinded by the light. Maybe you want to seem more mysterious. Or maybe you just like the way a monochromatic package looks. Whatever the reason, blacked-out trim packages are all the rage, and aftermarket shops abound with options for those who want the distinctly custom look.
But car companies are clearly taking note and offering their own versions. Here is a round-up of four that were announced just in the past 36 hours.
For 2021, the 7-passenger BMW X7 gets a Dark Shadow Edition treatment, a limited run of just 600 worldwide with 75 examples coming to the US. Based on the X7 M50i model, and with a price of $120,490 (including destination), you’ll get an Individual Frozen Arctic Grey metallic paint job with a matte finish; high-gloss black trim around the windows, grille, and bumper trim; and bi-color matte Jett Black 22-inch wheels for a custom exterior look.
Inside, you’ll find a two-tone Night Blue/Black color scheme for the cabin, with a Night Blue Alcantara-swathed headliner and Night Blue Nappa leather trim on the dashboard and door panel inserts. Pre-ordering for the Dark Shadow has already begun at dealerships, and this limited-production BMW will arrive in showrooms in late 2020.
Hyundai’s small SUV gets dressed up for 2021 with the new Kona Night Edition. This version of the Hyundai Kona is equipped with the turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine and includes gloss black exterior and interior accents, 18-inch semi-gloss black alloy wheels, and aluminum-capped pedals for the interior. Paint choices are Galactic Gray, Ultra Black, or Chalk White, and it will be available in September for a limited production run. Hyundai did not announce prices.
A special version of the Lexus NX is coming for 2021, and it will be limited to just 1,000 examples. Lexus dips the 2021 NX Hybrid F Sport Black Line into one of three colors: all-new Grecian Water, Ultra White, or Obsidian. The Black Line’s side mirrors are black, while body-colored overfender trim and 18-inch Dark Sputter finished wheels complete the look. Inside, you’ll find blue stitching throughout the black interior, with unique logos on the floor and cargo mats. This unique Lexus is available now with sticker price of $46,810.
Building on the luxury-laden Limited trim level, the Ram Heavy Duty Black Edition menacingly stands out from the crowd with black accents on the Ram badge, as well as black door handles, side mirrors, tow hooks, and lighting bezels. Dually versions get 17-inch black wheels, while single rear-wheel models come with 20-inch black wheels.
The Ram Heavy Duty Limited Black Edition is offered for both 2500 and 3500 series trucks, and with your choice of three engines: the 410-horsepower 6.4-liter V-8, the 370-horsepower 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel 6-cylinder, and the 400-horsepower 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel High Output. Prices start at $62,745, and the truck will be in dealerships during the last few months of 2020.
