According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the refreshed 2022 Kia Stinger sportback improves upon its safety rating thanks to new headlights. The car now earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS, the highest one possible.

For the new model year, Kia makes several changes to the 2022 Stinger. The standard GT-Line trim adds a new turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine generating 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. An 8-speed automatic puts the power to the rear or all four wheels, and Kia says it accelerates the car to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds.
Meanwhile, the twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 in the Stinger GT1 and GT2 gets a boost in output to 368 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque, shaving half a second off the car’s 0-to-60-mph acceleration time. It also uses an 8-speed automatic and rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.
In GT-Line and GT1 trim, new LED reflector headlights replace the previous halogen headlights. This change, and the resulting Good rating for the new lights, prompts the IIHS to give the Stinger its top-ranked rating. The Stinger GT2 continues to offer curve-adaptive LED projector headlights with an Acceptable rating.
In addition to its top-rated crash protection and headlights, the 2022 Stinger offers Kia Drive Wise advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) as standard equipment. Highlights include:
Additionally, the 2022 Kia Stinger has Highway Driving Assist, a Level 2 hands-on driving aid that combines the adaptive cruise control with the lane-centering assistance to make long highway drives easier.
Another change for 2022 is a standard 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Among its many features, it offers UVO Link connected services including 911 Connect, which can automatically contact emergency responders in the event of a collision.
The 2022 Stinger also features an ultrasonic rear-seat reminder system that can detect movement in the car for up to 24 hours, and send the owner an alert via smartphone app. This is useful when you’ve placed someone important in the back seat, but may have forgotten it was your day to drop off at daycare.
With comfortable seating for a family of four, the Stinger’s sportback body style supplies a roomy 23.3 cubic-foot trunk behind the rear seat. Fold the back seat down, and the car can accommodate more cargo as is necessary.
The 2022 Kia Stinger is on sale now, priced from $36,090 plus a destination charge of $1,045.
