Think of vehicles, and the first few pointers that come to mind are – reliability, value for money, and tech features. While some pickup trucks are known for their powerful engines, others are leading the market in terms of efficiency. No longer is it just about utility or necessity, but factors like comfort and fuel efficiency are what every user seeks these days.

Most Fuel Efficient Pickup Trucks

Since it's not just about commuting but ensuring that heavy tasks become more manageable, here is a hand-picked selection of some of the most gas-efficient pickup trucks that 2022 has to offer.

Nissan Frontier - Find the best Nissan deals!

Outputting a best-in-class 310 horsepower, the all-new Nissan Frontier promises not just pure power but rough solid terrain capability without compromising on comfort. The truck's redesign gives it a stylish edge, with all new features on a front panel console, right at your fingertips.

The vehicle has some additional features to ensure the driver's safety, including a blind-spot warning, automatic emergency brakes, and a panoramic view monitor, amongst others.

With an EPA estimated rating of 18 mpg city and 24 mpg highway, you can enjoy this highly efficient and powerful truck. But of course, this varies slightly depending on drivetrain configuration.

Nissan Titan - Find the best Nissan deals!

The Nissan Titan is a giant pickup truck with a standard V8 engine and a robust 400-horsepower engine. While the city mileage is about 16 mpg, the inside console offers an option of an 8" and 9" touchscreen display.

Equipped with Nissan's signature LED headlights, the truck has 20" aluminum-alloy wheels, tow mirrors, active brake limited slip (ABLS), and a dual panoramic moonroof. Available in various metallic shade body color options, the company has gone a step further in giving the 2022 model a luxurious interior uphaul.

As mentioned, the Titan’s 5.6-liter direct injection V8 engine manages 16 mpg city and 21 mpg highway, with the combined fuel economy reaching 18 mpg. It has a 26-gallon fuel tank and requires regular unleaded gas.

Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 - Find the best Chevrolet deals!

The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 has a rugged 308 horsepower engine. It is an excellent option for midsize trucks if you're looking to rough it on off-roads instead of just a speedy city ride.

With 4-wheel disc brakes, it's a perfect off-road truck with giant tires, a two-speed transfer case, a differential dual axle locking mechanism, and some fantastic American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) enhancements for superior performance. The ZR2 specification has two engine choices, a 3.6-liter 6-cylinder gasoline engine and a 2.8-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine.

The 6-cylinder gasoline engine has a solid mpg rating of 16 city/18 highway and 17 combined. The diesel variant pulls off 18 city/22 highway and 19 mpg combined. Both engine choices come in a 4-wheel drive configuration.

Toyota Tacoma - Find the best Toyota deals!

While the interiors haven't received much of an update, Toyota has made changes to the engine by giving the new model a 3.5-liter V6 engine with a 2.7 four-cylinder enhancement, making it one of the most fuel-efficient options on the market.

It features projector-beam headlights, a deck rail system, and front dual-zone automatic climate control. While the Toyota Tacoma might not be a popular choice for heavy-duty off-roading driving, driving it in the city can be a quite pleasurable. If convenience and an easy ride are what you're looking for, then the Tacoma sure is a viable option.

The Tacoma comes in six different trims. The SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, and TRD Pro. Whichever trim you choose, you either get a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine that is capable of 20 city/23 highway mpg or a V6 engine that has a 19 city/24 highway mpg rating. It has a fuel tank capacity of 21.1 gallons and requires regular gasoline, although fuel tank capacity varies slightly by trim.

When it comes to transmission, you can pick between a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. Again this will depend on the engine and configuration you choose.

Honda Ridgeline - Find the best Honda deals!

One of the best-known options in the midsize pickup truck category, the Honda Ridgeline comes with a 218 horsepower and a 3.5-liter V6 engine. Although it is not an ideal choice for off-roading or heavy cargo tows, its versatility and unibody build make it easy to drive, giving it an edge over the others for smooth city cruising. Additional features include leather-trimmed seats, a moonroof, and a wireless phone charger in their upper model options.

The Ridgeline comes in 4 trims, the Ridgeline Sport, RTL, RTL-E, and Black Edition. All trims feature a 9-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive is standard. MPG rating for all trims is 18 city/24 highway. The Ridgeline runs on regular gas and has a fuel tank capacity of 19.5 gallons.

Summary

Featuring a wide range of upgrades to brand-new machines, 2022 sure has something for everyone when it comes to pickup trucks. So whether you're looking for a comfortable family ride, an adventure machine, or an efficient buddy to ease your heavy-duty work, there are multifunctional truck options for every need, budget, and utility out there!
