While many of its upstart electric-vehicle (EV) competitors are fleshing out their lineups with new and proposed models, California-based Rivian is concentrating on refining its two existing model lines for 2024. The company produces an SUV and a pickup truck on the same basic platform. Both offer innovative storage and convenience solutions. New mid-level trim levels for the SUV and pickup are the most newsworthy developments for the 2024 model year.

For 2024, Rivian adds a mid-level Performance Dual-Motor version of the R1S battery-powered SUV. It splits the difference between the base Dual-Motor AWD trim and the 835-horsepower Quad-Motor version. The new trim shares its powertrain with the Rivian R1T pickup. It delivers a potent 665 hp and 829 pound-feet of torque. Rivian says it will propel the R1S from zero-to-60 mph in a scant 3.5 seconds. The "large" battery pack offers 352 miles of range on a charge. With the Max pack, the range increases to 410 miles. The Dual-Motor AWD sports silver brake calipers and black-accented badges.
As noted immediately above, the 2024 Rivian R1T battery-electric pickup truck adds a new, mid-range variant, dubbed the Performance Dual-Motor AWD. Its 635-hp 2-motor configuration allows it to certify the truth of its "Performance" nomenclature by its breathtaking acceleration. Rivian says it, like the similarly equipped R1S, will jet from a standstill to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. Five distinct drive modes help it negotiate wide varieties of terrain. Its trim and brake caliper finish mirror those of the R1S.
