After unleashing the all-new 1500 TRX last year, the 2022 Ram lineup receives moderate updates. Among them is the availability of Uconnect 5, the latest generation of Stellantis’ infotainment system, as well as a slew of new trim levels and special-edition models. The 1500 Classic, however, is a direct carryover model from 2021.
The all-new Uconnect 5 with an 8.4-inch touchscreen is standard, starting with the volume-leading 1500 Big Horn model (or Lone Star if sold in Texas). The infotainment system offers wireless smartphone connectivity, enhanced Off-Road and Performance pages, tow-specific navigation, and over-the-air updates. The entry-level Tradesman receives a 5-inch Uconnect 3 system with an option to upgrade to the larger display.
The previous Limited is being rebranded as the Limited 10th Anniversary Edition and features exclusive paint, interior décor, and badging. To keep the anniversaries straight, last year’s Limited Longhorn 10th Anniversary model is this year’s Longhorn SouthFork and will offer standard practical features like a multi-function tailgate, deployable bed step, and the Bed Utility package.
Ram 1500 Big Horn models outfitted with either of the Hemi V8 engine options are now available with a BackCountry variant. This outdoors-geared trim features the Bed Utility and Off-Road packages. Also, Ram offers a new G/T option on 1500 Laramie and Rebel Crew Cab models.
Other updates include a lineup-standard Ram Clean Air filtration system, a trailer hitch light added to the Trailer Tow package, and new colors Harvest Sunrise and Delmonico Red for certain trims. A special (RED) Edition is available on the 1500 Limited Crew Cab through a partnership with the eponymous non-profit global health fund.
The standard TRX is even more of an attention grabber with the new 1500 TRX Ignition Edition. Limited to 875 units and loaded with a long list of performance, technology, and design attributes for added exclusivity is the TRX Ignition. In addition to its namesake paint job and Copperhead Orange/carbon fiber sports luxury interior, the TRX Ignition comes standard with the TRX Level 2 equipment group. Performance is via the TRX standard 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8 found under the hood.
Harvest Sunrise is a new color for Ram’s 2022 line of heavy-duty trucks. And like the light-duty Ram 1500, an 8.4-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment screen is standard on Big Horn models and above for the 2500 and 3500. A 12-inch system is an available option.
Big Horn models also receive an updated grille design, while a new Silver Edition package pairs chrome exterior features with a black-accented interior. Heavy Duty Limited models with black interiors now feature a new Black Onyx finish. New for the Ram Power Wagon is a Level 3 Equipment package that adds an electric transfer case as well as creature comforts like a Harman Kardon sound system and premium upholstery.
The Trailer Tow package now includes a hitch light, and “tow mode” is available with a digital rearview mirror. The additional Trailer 360 View option provides a complete birds-eye perspective.
One of two commercial truck offerings, the 2022 Ram ProMaster is updated with an upgraded drivetrain, new driver information displays, next-gen Uconnect 5 telematics, more safety features, retuned steering, and additional configurations.
The 3.6-liter V6 engine is now mated to a segment-exclusive 9-speed automatic transmission. A new Crew Van configuration allows up to three passengers in the second row and puts the mix-and-match selection of height, wheelbases, and length to 18 customizations.
A new 3.5-inch driver information module and a 7-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen are standard. The larger pairing of a 7-inch driver’s screen and 10-inch Uconnect 5 display is available. A 360-degree surround-view camera is available, as well as a digital rearview camera.
As the smaller option of Ram’s two commercial vans, the ProMaster City fits into the Class 1 compact van segment. Available as either a 2-seat cargo van or a 5-seat passenger wagon, the 2022 Ram ProMaster City now comes standard with a body-color front fascia and manual adjustments for the driver’s seat height and lumbar. For added safety, daytime running lights, reversing sensors, and cruise control are now standard.
