Changes to the 2022 Maserati Models

Chris Teague | Dec 07, 2021

Maserati is a storied Italian automaker with models that offer striking style, opulent luxury, and raging performance. The brand is part of the Stellantis family, which also includes Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, FiatJeep, and Ram. Maserati made sweeping changes to its lineup for 2022 that focus on simplifying the trim level structures of its models. Trims like GranLusso and GranSport are gone in favor of a straightforward three-trim offering for most models. The GhibliLevante, and Quattroporte now come in GT, Modena, and Trofeo trims instead of the previous confusing naming structure.

2022 Maserati Ghibli Changes

The Ghibli sport sedan follows Maserati’s new three-trim structuring. Entry-level Ghibli GTs get a 345-horsepower V6, and the mid-range Modena gets a 424-hp 3.0-liter V6. The top Trofeo trim comes with a twin-turbo V8 that makes 580 hp. Interior finishes are luxurious, with various leathers, upscale trim, and either comfort or sport seats.

Maserati offers several upgrade packages for the Ghibli, including a $3,490 GT Sport package that adds 20-inch wheels, gloss-black trim, and painted brake calipers. The $700 climate package adds heated windshield washer nozzles and a power rear sunblind. A $4,590 GT Sport Nerissimo package brings 20-inch wheels and gloss-black painted brake calipers.

2022 Maserati Levante Changes

The trim simplification also means a more sensible lineup for the Levante SUV. Here, the GT trim brings a 345-hp twin-turbo V6. The Modena trim sees 424 hp from its twin-turbo V6. The new Modena S, which replaces the GTS, has 550 hp, and the Trofeo gets a 580-hp twin-turbo V8.

Beyond being more easily able to understand the trim structure, buyers will also see new Maserati logos and new badging on new Levante SUVs. The base Levante GT gets 20-inch wheels, leather upholstery, 12-way power seats with memory, and more.

2022 Maserati MC20 Changes

The MC20 is Maserati’s halo supercar and is all-new for 2022. MC, or Maserati Corse, could indicate that the automaker has eyes on racing and motorsport with the car, but for now, we have coupe and convertible versions of the road-going MC20. Behind its passenger compartment, the MC20 features a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 with a Formula 1-inspired twin-combustion system. A prodigious 630 hp hits the rear wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission. Maserati says it will release an electric version of the car with all-wheel drive in the near future.

2022 Maserati Quattroporte Changes

The stylish Maserati Quattroporte is a sizzling 4-door sports car that oozes Italian swagger. Its twin-turbo V6 and V8 engines are identical to the Ghibli’s output, which means 345 and 424 hp from the V6 mills and 580 ponies from the V8. Maserati cuts the QP’s price tag for 2022 and makes adaptive cruise control standard across the line.

Other standard features include 19-inch wheels, open-pore wood trim, leather upholstery, and more. Maserati being Maserati, there are several other opportunities to add exotic materials to the car’s interior, including silk, carbon fiber, woods, and metal.

Maserati and the author’s speculation are the sources of information in this article. It was accurate on November 23, 2021, but it may have changed since that date. Always confirm product details and availability with the automaker’s website or your local dealership.
