Introduction

With the debut of the Lexus LF-CC Concept at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, Lexus introduces the latest refinements to its L-finesse design language, debuts a new Lexus Hybrid Drive system that will be offered in future production models, and announces that it will build a midsize luxury coupe in the near future. According to Lexus, "the LF-CC reinforces Lexus' commitment to create more engaging, inspirational vehicles through attractive design, a superior driving experience and advanced technologies."

Exterior Features

Lexus says that the LF-CC displays "the latest evolution of the L-finesse design language and signature spindle grille, to be reflected in future Lexus D-segment vehicles." The LF-CC features three LED projector beam headlights, L-shaped 3-D-effect taillights, a center brake light mounted on the shark fin antenna, and a "Fluid Titanium" paint treatment.

Interior Features

In accordance with its Human Machine Interface design philosophy, Lexus claims that the LF-CC's cabin is designed to provide an upper Display Zone and a lower Operation Zone. The result, the company says, is "an airy, spacious cabin and a sporting cockpit which places the emphasis on a snug, highly focused driving environment." Lexus employs touch-tracer display technology to remotely control features.

The LF-CC Concept features a combination of soft touch and metallic cabin surfaces, with the seats, door panels, and dashboard trimmed in amber-colored leather.

Under the Hood

Lexus is using the LF-CC Concept to introduce its latest Lexus Hybrid Drive powertrain, which the company says will be available "in the near future." An Atkinson-cycle, 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder gasoline engine features direct fuel injection, and is paired with an electric motor powered by a Lithium-ion battery.

Lexus says this new version of Lexus Hybrid Drive will produce 2 horsepower for every gram of carbon dioxide it emits into the atmosphere, and the company claims it is targeting an emissions rating below 100 g/km. Translated, that infers the new Lexus Hybrid Drive system will generate just less than 200 horsepower.

For comparison, the 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid offers an Atkinson-cycle, 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder gasoline engine in combination with an electric motor and a nickel-metal hydride battery, and it generates a combined 200 horsepower, which achieves Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (AT-PZEV) status.
