Jaguar is transforming into an ultra-luxury electric-vehicle (EV) brand, leaving the British luxury cars you know in the past. The company, which ceased production of its sedans and sports cars earlier in 2024, will soon have a fully electric lineup, and this bold Type 00 concept previews its first EV model.

Jaguar says it wants to “copy nothing” from its past products, and the Type 00 does just that. The company’s logo depicting the jungle cat’s face is gone, replaced by simple, circular text and a round logo with the letters “J” and “R” intertwined within the circle.

Jaguar named the concept vehicle "Type" to honor historic models like the 1960s E-Type coupe, while “00" signifies its zero-emission powertrain. The design's elongated shape is reminiscent of the iconic E-Type, yet the rest of the car deviates significantly from traditional Jaguars. It features a bold, upright stance with angular lines and straightforward LED lighting.
Ahead of the long doors is a rectangular brass trim piece with the Jaguar “leaper” logo that deploys rear-facing cameras. The concepts shown are finished in two new colors: Miami Pink (Jaguar revealed the concept at Miami Art Week) and London Blue. They ride on massive 23-inch wheels.

The Type 00 concept has butterfly doors like a Lamborghini that open to a minimalist interior. Brass lines flow throughout the cabin, and a 10.5-foot brass spine splits the driver and passenger seats. The production model’s interior will likely look wildly different but follow the same theme.

Jaguar claims that the production model will travel up to 430 miles on a single charge, exceeding the range of the Porsche Taycan. However, it falls short of the Lucid Air Grand Touring, which has up to 512 miles of range. Jaguar says the EV will replenish 200 miles of range in 15 minutes when hooked to a DC fast-charging station.

The Type 00 concept vehicle allows the fictitious driver to personalize the cabin experience with ambient lighting, screen graphics, and animations, which should roll over to the production model.
Jaguar is starting from scratch, and this new Type 00 concept previews the company’s future, where it will compete with an onslaught of luxury EVs like the BMW i7, Lucid Air, Mercedes-Benz EQS, and Porsche Taycan. You’ll have to wait for more details before comparing the new Jag with the competition, but if it looks anything like this concept, it’ll be a compelling choice against electric cars that look nowhere out of the ordinary.
