Cadillac's CTS Coupe concept, with an exterior design that suggests the look of a precision-cut diamond, ventures beyond the successful CTS to become the brand's next great new design. Memorable Cadillac concepts include the 1938 60 Special, the entire 1959 model lineup, 1975 Seville, 1999 Evoq and 2003 Sixteen. With the same wheelbase as the CTS, the CTS Coupe concept is two inches lower and two inches shorter. The rear-wheel drive (RWD) concept vehicle is designed to accommodate a range of gasoline and diesel engines for the global luxury market, including the 3.6-liter, direct-injection V-6 engine and a new 2.9-liter turbo-diesel engine that's currently in development.
The dramatic design of the CTS Coupe concept boasts a number of elements inspired by-and that look similar to-a precision-cut diamond. This is especially prevalent in the concept's rear and includes a chrome header above the license plate holder, as well as indents forming the rear fascia.
Vertical taillamps and headlamps add to the car's forward-looking design. Cadillac says the design is "emotion on four wheels" and the "very essence of what defines Cadillac today."
Sharing only the instrument panel, headlamps, front fenders and grille with the production CTS, the CTS Coupe concept offers its own unique design elements. These include no B-pillar in the classic hardtop styling; production windshield (from CTS) that's laid at a faster angle for a more sleek profile; chrome split-7-spoke wheel design, 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels; sculpted lower front fascia with unique brake-cooling vents; outside mirrors with slim-profile; hidden door handles featuring proximity remote opening; unique front fender vents; diamond-cut rear fascia with center-outlet exhaust and 
mesh lower grilles; subtle fin-profile taillamps highlighted with light emitting diode (LED) technology with light pipes; rear spoiler integrated into center high-mounted stop lamp; and sculpted roof-mounted antenna (for OnStar and XM satellite radio).
The interior features custom-trimmed sport Recaro seats with black and suede-like micro-fiber material with yellow ochre-colored inserts. Yellow ochre stitching appears throughout the interior, on the seats, shifter knob, instrument panel and other areas, while black micro-fiber fabric adorns the front and rear armrests. The console, sporting carbon-fiber trim accents, is one continuous compartment stretching from the instrument panel to the rear seats. Ambient lighting throughout the car provides an elegant and distinctive nighttime look.
With the capability to accommodate a wide range of engines, the Cadillac CTS Coupe concept is aimed at the needs of the global luxury market.
These engines include the current 304-hp, 3.6-liter, direct-injection V-6 engine and a new 2.9-liter turbo-diesel engine that's currently in development for international markets. The latter will deliver an estimated 250 hp and 406-lb.-ft. of torque.
A 6-speed manual transmission sends torque to an independently sprung rear axle. The suspension is sport-tuned to give the CTS Coupe concept a lower ride height than the production CTS (by two inches) and large 20-inch front and 21-inch rear cast aluminum wheels add to the car's lower profile and rakish shape.
High-performance brakes feature cross-drilled rotors. Clamping down on those big front wheels are 6-piston calipers, while 4-piston calipers handle the rear. All rotors sport a yellow-painted finish.
Technological features include a premium Bose audio system and XM satellite radio. An integrated 40GB hard drive stores thousands of songs, maps and more. The concept is also likely to have ports for USB-connected devices as well as other electronics, and built-in Bluetooth technology. OnStar with Turn-by-Turn Navigation is another vehicle feature. The vehicle's onboard navigation system features a screen that rises up from the instrument panel center-as in the production CTS.
