Volkswagen's economy sedan, the Jetta, is receiving a slight refresh for 2025 and will offer better value than before. The 2025 Volkswagen Jetta will have a base price of $21,995 making it a few hundred dollars cheaper than the prior year's model. The new Jetta is set to arrive in the fall of 2024.
Volkswagen offers the 2025 Jetta in many different trim levels and options. The base S trim has cloth seats, the now-standard 8-inch touchscreen, and chrome window surrounds. The Sport trim gets larger wheels, a lowered suspension, and black trim. The midgrade SE and SEL trims get more interior niceties and tech features, while the top GLI model has the more powerful 2.0-liter engine, an available manual transmission, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen.
You'll have to look closely to notice the 2025 Jetta's updates. Volkswagen only slightly modified the front and rear fascias with new grilles and LED lights, and new 17- and 18-inch wheel options are available. Two new exterior paint colors—Monterey Blue Pearl and Monument Gray—are also available.
The Jetta's updated interior now has a standard 8-inch touchscreen display that uses haptic buttons for climate control functions but retains a physical volume knob. Black or grey cloth seats are standard, while embossed cloth, synthetic leather, or perforated Vienna leather seats are available depending on the trim. The Jetta GLI has a new gray, black, and red leather interior with matte trim.
The 2025 Jetta has a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 158 horsepower and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the Jetta GLI uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that makes 228 hp and 258 pound-feet of torque. Jetta GLI buyers can choose from a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission or a six-speed manual. The GLI also has larger brakes, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, and adaptive dampers.
Volkswagen's IQ.Drive suite of driver-assistance tech is standard on all 2025 Jettas. It includes safety features such as forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, active blind-spot warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assistance.
The Honda Civic sets the standard for compact sedans, but the Jetta has a more competitive price. Both have similar features and options, but in my experience, the Honda is more enjoyable to drive, especially in its higher-performing variants. The same holds for sedans like the Mazda Mazda3 and Toyota Corolla. Nonetheless, the updates to the 2025 Jetta keep it competitive in a shrinking segment.
