The TLX has been a part of Acura’s lineup for almost a decade, bringing a sporty approach to premium sedans and sharp styling. Though it’s not as hardcore as some European rivals, the TLX has refined powertrains and plenty of power, especially in the performance-oriented Type S version. Acura gives the car a few updates for the 2024 model year, including a new grille design, more robust infotainment tech, and more advanced safety equipment.

Acura will continue offering two main configurations for the TLX in 2024: base and Type S. The base model gets a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, while the Type S gets a turbocharged V6 with 355 horsepower. All-wheel drive (AWD) is available for the base car and standard for the Type S. TLX production will continue at Acura’s plant in Marysville, Ohio. Expect the sedan to go on sale in early 2024.

Acura massages the TLX’s nose for 2024, giving it a new frameless grille and updated LED headlights. The car’s uniquely shaped LED daytime running lights remain, and Acura says the grille’s new diamond pattern gives the TLX a more aggressive look. New 19-inch machine-finished wheels are standard, with the A-Spec trim getting gray wheels. The Type S receives 20-inch wheels, and Acura offers lightweight copper-finish 20-inch wheels from the TLX Type S PMC Edition.

The 2024 TLX gets a new infotainment screen and tech updates, but its cabin doesn’t change dramatically from the year before. Acura equips synthetic leather as standard, but higher trims add genuine hides, such as Milano leather in the Technology package cars, suede and leather in the A-Spec, and more. Buyers also have a few choices for interior color schemes. The standard TLX is available with black, gray, or brown upholstery, while you can have the Type S with red or black leather.
Acura offers two powertrain options for the 2024 TLX. The standard engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, making 272 hp and 280 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the Type S gets a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 355 hp and 354 pound-feet of torque. Both engines come with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and the Type S gearbox has performance tuning. Acura also offers its excellent torque-vectoring AWD with the 4-cylinder engine, and it comes standard with the V6.
AcuraWatch safety equipment comes standard, bringing features like automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assistance, and more. Other standard features include blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, traffic-sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, a multi-view camera system, and hill-start assist. Acura offers a head-up display, parking sensors, and more.
At the time of writing, neither the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) nor the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has crash-tested the 2024 TLX. However, the structurally similar 2023 model earned a Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) rating from the IIHS for the 2022 calendar year. Testing sometimes occurs for new models during the previous calendar year, which is why we see the 2023 TLX with a 2022 TSP+ award. The 2023 model has not seen the Institute’s new side-impact test, which is more intense and uses more impact force. Changes to the testing criteria knocked several previously qualified models off the Top Safety Pick list, so we’ll have to wait to see how the TLX measures up.
The TLX gets a new infotainment system for 2024 with 20 percent more screen real estate. Measuring 12.3 inches, the high-definition display accompanies a 12.3-inch configurable digital gauge cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with Bluetooth connectivity, several USB inputs, an ELS Studio premium stereo, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, and more. Acura’s infotainment interface is not as fluid or intuitive as some, but it is much improved over the systems seen in slightly older model years. That said, Acura packs the 2024 TLX’s infotainment setup with great features. Also, Acura’s ELS Studio sound systems are fantastic, bringing powerful bass and clear sound at any volume.
The TLX has amazingly strong competition from Europe and America. The BMW 5 Series is among the best in its class, bringing sporty driving dynamics with refinement and class. The Cadillac CT5 is another compelling alternative, and the red-hot V-Series Blackwing cars are among the most exciting vehicles on sale today. Buyers may also eye the Audi A6 or Lexus ES.
