Mazda will sell the MX-30 in base and Premium Plus trim levels, but the powertrain and range are the same for both. Buyers will receive a $500 credit toward charging sessions or installing a home charging station. Those that need a gas vehicle for longer trips will have access to other Mazda vehicles during the first three years of ownership. The benefit is called MX-30 Elite Access Loaner Program and allows owners to access Mazda vehicles for up to 10 days per year during the first three years.

Mazda says it penned the MX-30 with a new “Human Modern” concept in mind that is an evolution of its existing Kodo design language. The brand’s signature grille and headlight shape are more pronounced in the new EV, and the SUV will feature two main doors with smaller “freestyle” doors that open access to the back seat. New multi-tone paint schemes will give the MX-30 a unique appearance in the Mazda lineup. Available body colors will include Polymetal Gray, Ceramic Metallic, or Soul Red Crystal.

Mazda is known for its upscale interiors, and the automaker claims that the MX-30 will be no different. However, one significant shift will be in the materials used, which Mazda says will include environmentally friendly components such as cork. Interestingly, Mazda started as a cork manufacturer over 100 years ago.

The MX-30 will also feature a floating center console, two USB inputs, and a 150-watt AC power outlet. The brand’s signature rotary-dial controller appears here, as does a 7-inch touchscreen that handles climate controls with redundant physical controls flanking either side. A two-tone color scheme is standard, with either Pure White leatherette and gray fabric or Vintage Brown with black fabric. Both options use 20 percent recycled threads.

Mazda calls its new electrified powertrain e-Skyactiv EV, which in the MX-30 means a 35.5-kWh lithium-ion battery and an 80.9-kW electric motor sending power to the front wheels. System power output lands at 143 horsepower and 200 pound-feet of torque. Mazda says it located the battery pack under the MX-30’s floor to improve its performance and cooling and keep the vehicle’s center of gravity low.

The MX-30 can charge at Level 2 and Level 3 fast-charging stations and can recover 80 percent of range in 36 minutes on a Level 3 charger, Mazda says. That same range recovery takes 2 hours and 50 minutes on a Level 2 charger and 13 hours and 40 minutes on a Level 1 charger.

Safety Systems - Find the best Mazda deals!

The MX-30 comes with a long list of standard safety tech that includes:

The top Premium Plus trim adds enhanced blind-spot monitoring that can help steer the MX-30 away from an unseen vehicle, as well as a front cross-traffic alert system.

Infotainment and Technology - Find the best Mazda deals!

All MX-30s get an 8.8-inch center display that runs the newest version of Mazda Connect infotainment software. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard. The MX-30 Premium Plus steps up to a Bose 12-speaker stereo, a 360-degree camera system, and SiriusXM satellite radio.
