Small SUVs are undeniably appealing. When the redesigned 2022 Honda HR-V release date arrives toward the end of the 2021 calendar year, the new crossover will undoubtedly prove itself a worthy competitor in the segment.

Honda revealed the 2022 HR-V in European specification. As part of the automaker’s plan to electrify all of its mainstream models in Europe by 2022, the all-new HR-V includes a standard two-motor hybrid powertrain. When the redesigned HR-V arrives in the U.S., it may offer the hybrid as an option, though it would be a pleasant surprise to see it as standard equipment in the States, too.
Why? Because the outgoing HR-V desperately needs some off-the-line oomph, and the immediate electric motor torque of a hybrid could do wonders for driver satisfaction.
As for the design, Honda says it is “coupe-inspired.” The new HR-V retains the hidden rear door handles found on the current model, pairing them with a more grown-up and sophisticated look. A longer hood, sharper lines and forms, and a better-integrated grille add much-needed maturity to the design. The new HR-V also appears lower to the ground while sitting on wheels pushed out to the corners for improved visual balance.
Inside, the HR-V’s uncluttered cabin remains a minimalist’s dream, and Honda replaces the outgoing model’s fussy touch-sensing climate controls for proper knobs and buttons. A freestanding, tablet-style infotainment system appears to offer a larger display with a flush touchscreen surface, and there is a volume knob along with radio station tuning buttons.

Honda suggests that it has improved the HR-V’s interior materials with upgraded soft-touch surfaces and new fabrics. The company says the HR-V provides “class-leading” interior space (in Europe) and offers plenty of room for four adults.
If you’re a fan of Honda’s Magic Seats design, rest assured the popular feature returns in the 2022 HR-V. The Magic Seats add plenty of utility to the HR-V, with individual rear-seat bottom cushions that flip up to carry taller items on the floor in the second row of seats or fold flat to maximize cargo space. The split-folding rear-seat design also allows owners to mix-and-match cargo-carrying modes to meet specific requirements.
As far as safety is concerned, you can expect the new HR-V to have the latest Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, as well as an updated Honda Sensing collection of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS).

Honda reports that the redesigned 2022 HR-V will go on sale in Europe by the end of 2021.
