It seems like yesterday that Genesis introduced its polarizing new Athletic Elegance design language on its flagship G90 sedan. Now, that Genesis has lifted the cover on the restyled 2022 G70, every Genesis adopts the styling, which looks more appealing on vehicles designed to wear the motif from the start. They include the redesigned G80 sedan, the new GV80 SUV, and now, the 2022 GV70 SUV.

When the new Genesis GV70 goes on sale in 2021, it will offer rear-wheel or all-wheel drive, a choice between a turbocharged 4-cylinder and twin-turbocharged V-6 engine, and the latest in advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) and infotainment technologies.

The new 2022 Genesis GV70 wears its styling well. Quad Lamp LED headlights bracket the signature crest grille, and similar LED taillight designs match them at the SUV’s rear. An arcing “Parabolic Line” defines the SUV in profile, and a fast roofline creates a coupe-like appearance. An unusual rear quarter window and chrome trim treatment helps the GV70 to stand apart from the crowd, as do vertically oriented exhaust outlets.

New paint colors to the Genesis family include Mauna Red, Barossa Burgundy Metallic, and Barossa Burgundy Matte.

Genesis says the GV70’s interior reflects a Korean architectural concept equating to the “beauty of white space.” It certainly reflects a minimalistic ethos, with air vents embedded into a broad strip that separates the black upper dashboard from a color-contrasting center section.

Elegant controls on the driver-oriented center console operate the widescreen infotainment system and transmission, and Genesis says the GV70’s Wave Line interior mood lighting emphasizes the overall design. An air purification system is standard for the automatic climate control, along with an After-Blow function that dries the system to prevent mold growth.

Optional Features - Find the best Genesis deals!

Upgrades to the new GV70 include 18-way power-adjustable front seats, heated and ventilated front and rear seats, and a heated steering wheel. This Genesis is ready for any kind of weather, especially when equipped with its optional all-wheel-drive system.

A Sport Package is also available for the new GV70. You can identify this version of the SUV by its 21-inch aluminum wheels, blacked-out trim, dark-chrome 3D mesh grille, restyled bumpers, body-color rear diffuser panel, and large round exhaust outlets.

Inside, the Sport Package swaps the standard two-spoke steering wheel for a three-spoke sport design and is available with premium Nappa quilted leather and carbon-fiber trim.

A turbocharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine is standard in the GV70. If you run the SUV on premium gas, it makes an estimated 300 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 311 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,650 rpm and 4,000 rpm.

As an option, a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 is available. Slurping premium gas, it supplies 375 hp at 5,800 rpm and 391 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,300 rpm and 4,500 rpm.

Both engines employ an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters that transfers the power to the rear wheels through an electronic locking differential. A launch control system is standard, and Genesis says the twin-turbo version of the GV70 rockets to 60 mph in about five seconds.

Drivers choose between Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Custom driving modes. Versions with the Sport Package add a Sport Plus setting. Install the optional all-wheel-drive system, and a Terrain mode enhances traction in sand, mud, and snow. Genesis also offers an adaptive damping suspension for the GV70, complete with a preview capability to predict and respond to upcoming bumps and holes in the pavement.

As is true of other Genesis models, the GV70 comes with three years and 36,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance complete with complimentary valet pick-up and drop-off service.

Safety - Find the best Genesis deals!

The new 2022 Genesis GV70 is the beneficiary of the latest and greatest ADAS and safety technologies available. Here, we’ll highlight the new and notable features.

Highway Drive Assist II (HDA II) is a semi-autonomous Level 2 ADAS, a next-generation version of Hyundai Motor Group’s existing HDA system. It adds a new driver-activated lane-change assistance function and what Genesis characterizes as “active response to low-speed, close-range cut-ins” into the gap ahead of the SUV.

To ensure drivers pay attention when using HDA II, a driver monitoring system and a new Forward Attention Warning function make sure the person behind the steering wheel is looking ahead and ready to take control with a moment’s notice.

Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA) is new, working with the adaptive cruise control system and, when active, HDA II to adjust vehicle speed based on local limits. It relies on the GV70’s traffic sign recognition system and, in vehicles with navigation, GPS data. Additionally, Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC) automatically reduces the GV70’s speed in a curve.

New automatic braking functions include junction assistance to help prevent accidents at intersections and low-speed braking when parking to avoid contact with obstacles, other vehicles, and pedestrians.

Finally, parents will be pleased with the GV70’s radar-based Advanced Rear Occupant Alert system with a phased alert system. Not only can it detect movement in the car, but also respiratory activity, such as that of a sleeping baby. Think of it as a more sophisticated rear-seat reminder system.

Technology - Find the best Genesis deals!

The 2022 Genesis GV70 is rich with technology. In addition to a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation cluster and a 14.5-inch infotainment display, it offers augmented reality navigation guidance and a surround-view camera system with remote viewing capability using a smartphone app.

However, what’s more impressive is the new fingerprint authentication technology that allows the owner to unlock the doors, start the GV70, access customized profiles, and make payments via Genesis CarPay.

Genesis also offers its Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) technology on the new GV70. It is an autonomous parking technology that works whether the driver is inside or outside of the SUV, and it can self-park the GV70 in parallel or perpendicular parking spaces.

To operate the new infotainment system, drivers use the Genesis Touch Controller on the center console. The SUV includes three months of free satellite radio, three years of free Genesis Connected Services, three years of free software updates, and lifetime access to free traffic data.

Lastly, and it seems like a little thing until you need it, the Genesis GV70 has an alert to let the driver know the vehicle ahead is moving again. You know, just in case of the onboard technology has you distracted.
