The recently launched Ford Bronco was one of the most anticipated model releases of all time, and reservation holders are still waiting to get the opportunity to own one more than half a year after deliveries began. To add fuel to the fire for 2022, Ford announced a new Bronco Raptor variant that gets a powerful twin-turbo V6 engine, a load of go-fast off-road gear, and bold styling upgrades.

The new Bronco Raptor comes in a single version, essentially as a trim level of the standard Bronco SUV. Pricing starts at $69,995—more than $20,000 above the most expensive current Bronco trim, Wildtrak. Ford plans extremely limited production numbers, with most heading to existing Bronco reservation holders.

The Bronco Raptor looks like a standard 4-door Bronco on steroids. Unique amber LED running lights accent a blacked-out grille with a massive Ford logo. The Raptor is 9.8 inches wider than the standard SUV, with enormous fender flares to accommodate its giant 37-inch tires. There’s a full-size spare attached to the rear liftgate, and Ford kept Raptor badging to a bare minimum.
Ford offers a Raptor Graphics package that adds splatter graphics on the sides and hood. The 2022 model year brings two new colors to the entire Bronco line: Hot Pepper Red Metallic and Eruption Green Metallic. Other colors include:
A Bronco Raptor-exclusive Code Orange color is also available.

The standard Bronco’s interior is a comfortable but rugged space, and the Raptor takes the same approach. The dash is upright and features none of the curves and fanciful design seen in many other SUVs. It’s a long horizontal panel punctuated with a large 12-inch infotainment screen, a bold Bronco logo, and a digital gauge cluster.
Black marine-grade vinyl upholstery is standard, along with rubberized washout flooring. Ford Performance front seats are standard and are exclusive to the Raptor. Orange accents brighten up the space a bit with splashes of color on the gear selector dial, air vents, door netting, and steering wheel stitching. Ford offers synthetic suede upholstery and carpeted flooring for buyers wanting a more mainstream interior experience.
Ford disclosed the Bronco Raptor’s projected power number, but only estimated. The twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 produces north of 400 hp, but Ford hasn’t put a fine point on output yet. It’s not the first application for the engine, which Ford also used in the Ford Explorer ST, Lincoln Aviator, Lincoln Continental, and Lincoln MKZ. The mighty mill comes mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission with unique Ford Performance tuning.
The Bronco Raptor features a proper dual exhaust system with active valves to alter the sound depending on the selected mode: Normal, Sport, Quiet, and Baja. Building on the standard Bronco’s suite of G.O.A.T. (Goes Over Any Type of Terrain) driving modes, the Raptor gets a new Baja mode that Ford says reduces turbo lag and helps maximize performance for high-speed desert runs. The Raptor also gets a Bronco-first tow/haul mode that enables up to 4,500 pounds of towing capacity.
Ford Performance 17-inch wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich 37-inch K02 tires are standard. Underneath, Ford Performance front and rear control arms deliver massive suspension travel of 13 inches up front and 14 inches in the rear. The standard Bronco’s High-Performance Off-road Stability got a boost from Fox with its 3.1 Internal Bypass Semi-Active Dampers with position-sensing capability. Sensors at each corner monitor the situation and adjust suspension tuning hundreds of times per second.
Ford hasn’t elaborated on safety systems for the Bronco Raptor, but the standard Bronco is well equipped out of the box. The upgraded Raptor will likely retain the standard model’s features and add a few of its own. Standard driver aids should include:
The 2022 Bronco Raptor comes standard with features that are optional for the standard model. That includes a 12-inch touchscreen running Ford’s Sync 4 infotainment software. A standard 360-degree camera system allows various detailed views of the terrain around the vehicle, and smartphone connections include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Ford offers a Lux package for the Bronco Raptor that adds a 10-speaker B&O audio system and adaptive cruise control.
Ford’s move to Sync 4 brought the ability to utilize over-the-air updates to improve performance and add new features. Sync 4 runs on the Bronco Raptor’s 12-inch touchscreen with swipe capability and a vibrant, colorful display. The system also features advanced voice controls with better recognition than its predecessor.
As it is a hardcore off-roader, the Bronco Raptor’s competitors are few but fierce. Buyers may consider the Ford F-150 Raptor, Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392, or Ram 1500 TRX.
