As previously mentioned, the second-generation BMW 2 Series cars are longer, lower, and wider than their predecessors. The 230i is 4.3 inches longer, 2.6 inches wider, and one inch lower, while the M240i xDrive is 3.5 inches longer, 2.6 inches wider, and .1 inches lower. BMW gave both cars a 2-inch wheelbase extension for the new model year as well. Other exterior highlights include flared fenders and a domed hood.

While many of BMW’s other models have moved to a much more prominent kidney grille, the 2 Series retains a more modestly sized snout. Underneath, the grilles feature vertical air flaps that open in 10 stages to increase cooling to the engine when needed.

The new 2 Series Coupe features a driver-centered cockpit with the gear selector, start/stop button, drive mode selector, and other controls all grouped on one panel in the center console. The front seats automatically slide forward when the driver folds the backrests for easier access to the rear seats. Other standard features include sport seats and a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel. The M240i xDrive Coupe also gets a moonroof as standard equipment; it is available on the 230i as an option.

Powering the 230i Coupe is a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, an improvement of 7 hp and 37 pound-feet over the previous model. BMW says that the powertrain is good enough to propel the 230i Coupe from a standstill to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds.

The M240i xDrive gets a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine rated at 382 hp and 369 pound-feet of torque. Those numbers are an upgrade over the previous model’s specs by 47 hp and one pound-foot of torque. According to BMW, the M240i xDrive Coupe can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds and go on to a top speed of either 130 or 155 mph, depending on the configuration. Both engines come paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
