Upgraded safety features headline the changes to the 2021 Honda Odyssey, a staple of school drop-off lines, soccer field parking lots, and America’s national parks.
JD Power ratings for the Honda Odyssey show that it holds its value better than other minivan models, according to the 2019 JD Power Resale Value Awards. Owners like their Odysseys more than people who buy competing models, too, as shown by its top ranking in the 2019 JD Power Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout (APEAL) Study.

Honda Odyssey configurations include LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, and Elite trim levels. At this time, 2021 Honda Odyssey prices remain undisclosed, but buyers can expect the LX trim to rise given new standard safety features. Other trim levels will experience a minor increase.
Honda makes a significant change to the 2021 Odyssey’s styling, one that could be a response to criticism of its chrome grilles. Now, the grille is black with a tasteful chrome strip along the top. This is similar to the approach taken with the updated 2020 Honda CR-V and could represent a trend that will extend to all new Hondas.
Additionally, the 2021 Odyssey gets new LED headlights, a restyled front bumper, and gloss black trim with a chrome accent strip underneath the side windows. Elite trim receives redesigned 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels and standard auto-dimming side mirrors.
Subtle changes to the 2021 Honda Odyssey’s interior help to improve functionality and aesthetics.
Honda says it has revised the minivan’s climate controls, and the second-row seatbacks feature a simpler folding mechanism. Upgrade from LX to EX trim, and the Odyssey has illuminated USB ports and tri-color floor mats.
The 2021 Odyssey EX-L has always had leather upholstery, but this year Honda revises it to include contrast stitching. Honda also adds second-row seatback storage pockets and power adjustable lumbar support for the EX-L’s front passenger.
Touring trim receives new piano black interior accents, while the top-of-the-line Elite gains perforated leather with contrast piping for the front and second-row seats.
Expect 2021 Honda Odyssey configurations to mirror those of the 2020 model. Honda packages this vehicle by trim level, offering a single option package that installs a navigation system and a rear-seat entertainment system in the Odyssey EX-L. Dealers sell additional upgrades as extra-cost accessories.
With the updated 2021 Odyssey, Honda continues to offer a 280-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 engine, a 10-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive. The engine includes variable cylinder management, allowing it to operate in 3-cylinder mode when cruising or coasting in order to save fuel.
Marking the most significant change to the 2021 Honda Odyssey, the company’s Honda Sensing collection of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) is now standard on the base LX trim. Previously, it was unavailable with LX trim, and standard starting with EX trim.
Furthermore, Honda upgrades the technology suite with a low-speed follow capability for the adaptive cruise control system and pedestrian detection capability for the automatic emergency braking system.
Honda also adds a rear-seat reminder system to the 2021 Odyssey. It issues both audible and visual alerts to the driver if one of the rear sliding doors was opened prior to driving the vehicle. With Touring and Elite trim, it integrates with the Cabin Watch rear-seat camera technology.
Honda announced no changes to the new Odyssey’s technology offerings. They continue to include the Cabin Talk in-vehicle public announcement and Cabin Watch camera monitoring systems, as well as an available rear-seat entertainment system with music and video streaming capability.
