Introduction

The Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG is the top-of-the-line version of the SL-Class roadster.

Exterior Features

To differentiate the 2013 SL65 AMG from other SL models, Mercedes installs a twin-blade AMG grille and unique side and hood vent trim, as well as bespoke 19-inch AMG wheels. Like the SL63 AMG, the SL65 AMG is equipped with bi-Xenon headlights with Active Curve Illumination and LED running lights, aerodynamic body kit, rear spoiler, and other sporty styling cues.

The new SL65 AMG also differs in that its power-retractable hardtop roof includes a panoramic heated Magic Sky Control glass panel. A heated windshield, soft-close doors, and hands-free trunk operation are also included on this model.

A limited-production SL65 AMG 45th Anniversary model is dipped in exclusive Designo Magno Graphite silk-matte paint, and features polished chrome accents, carbon fiber trim, and special wheels wearing AMG Performance Studio tires.

Interior Features

Look around the 2013 SL65 AMG's cabin, and you will see plenty of "AMG V12" references. You'll also find that this model is equipped with just about everything that can be added to the new Mercedes SL, including 12-way power active multi-contour sport seats with heating and ventilation, Bang & Olufsen BeoSound premium audio system, full-featured COMAND system, and Keyless Go keyless entry and ignition.

The SL65 AMG is equipped with special Exclusive leather upholstery and a Nappa leather headliner. Carbon-fiber trim panels and a power windscreen are also standard, along with AirScarf, a system that warms occupants' necks when the top is down on chilly days. The driver faces an AMG performance steering wheel and a set of AMG gauges with Racetimer technology.

The SL65 AMG 45th Anniversary model gets two-tone Gray Pearl and Ginger Beige Designo diamond-stitched leather, carbon matte trim, and a "1 of 45" trim plate.

Optional Features

Few options are available for the 2013 SL65 AMG. You can swap out the gray-painted brake calipers for red-painted ones. There's also an AMG performance steering wheel with Dinamica grips available, as well as an AMG Exterior Carbon Fiber package, carbon ceramic high-performance brakes, AMG Performance Media system, and staggered-width AMG forged aluminum wheels.

Under the Hood

A hand-assembled, 6.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V-12 engine generates 621 horsepower at 4,800 rpm and 738 lb.-ft. of torque between 2,300 and 4,300 rpm. Mercedes says the SL65 AMG will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds, and achieve a top speed of 186 mph.

An AMG SpeedShift 7-speed automatic transmission with Controlled Efficiency, Sport, Sport+ and Manual modes is standard, and the SL65 AMG includes an automatic stop/start system that shuts the engine off when the car is idling. Additionally, the SL65 AMG includes Active Body Control suspension, sport steering, performance brakes, and sport exhaust tuning.

Safety

Six air bags, including knee air bags for driver and passenger, are standard on the 2013 Mercedes SL65 AMG, as well as Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist. This roadster is also equipped with pop-up rollover protection, Attention Assist drowsy-driver detection, Distronic Plus active cruise control with Pre-Safe collision preparedness, and Mbrace 2 telematics. Active Lane Keeping Assist and Active Blind Spot Assist are also included on every SL65 AMG.
