German automaker BMW announced the 2026 BMW M340i xDrive 50 Jahre Edition, a new 3 Series variant commemorating 50 years of the company's premium compact sedan. First introduced in July 1975, the 3 Series quickly became the defining example for all things BMW and virtually set the standard for the sport sedan segment. Deliveries of the M340i 50 Jahre will begin in the United States in the first quarter of 2026.
BMW offers the new M340i 50 Jahre in five paint colors and upholstery options from the automaker's Individual division, along with color-coordinated brake calipers. Each 50 Jahre model will feature Extended Merino leather inside, marking the first time BMW has offered Merino leather in the 3 Series in the U.S. market.
Every 50 Jahre Edition is priced at $76,375, including the destination charge. The only available options are paint and interior colors, which are included at no-cost, along with a few driver assistance features like adaptive cruise control and lane centering assistance.
Paint and interior colors draw inspiration from five distinct generations of the 3 Series. The first design choice honors the first-generation (E21) 3 Series in Ruby Red Metallic, with an Ivory leather interior and red brake calipers. The second generation (E30) palette for the M340i 50 Jahre features Boston Green Metallic paint, Tartufo (brown) leather, and blue-painted calipers.
Next, the third generation (E36) color scheme features Avus Blue Metallic paint and Tartufo leather with blue calipers. Fourth generation (E46) colors include Carbon Black Metallic, with black leather and red calipers. The final 3 Series generation represented in the 50 Jahre Edition is the fifth (E90), which sports Sparkling Graphite Metallic paint, Tartufo leather, and red-painted calipers.
Powering every M340i 50 Jahre Edition is a 386-horsepower, turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine with 48-volt mild hybrid assistance. This combustion engine pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive capable of propelling the sport sedan to 60 mph in a claimed 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph.
Each 50 Jahre M340i also features Shadowline (black) trim around the windows, a complete set of LED exterior lights, a carbon fiber rear spoiler, and "50 JAHRE EDITION" trunk lid badging. A dual-branch M Performance exhaust system, 19-inch dual-spoke wheels, and all-season run-flat tires are included in the 50 Jahre package.
Other standard equipment for the M340i 50 Jahre includes surround view cameras with 3D viewing, Parking Assistant Plus, a Harman Kardon surround-sound audio system, and the BMW Curved Display paired with a head-up display for the driver.
While the 2026 BMW M340i xDrive 50 Jahre Edition features distinct design elements not available on other sport sedans in its class, it faces tough competition from rivals such as the Acura TLX Type S, Audi S4, and Mercedes-AMG C 43.
