The refreshed Kia Sorento's electrified versions are here, available as either a hybrid (HEV) or a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). Regardless of your choice, the new 2025 Kia Sorento Hybrid and Sorento PHEV offer three rows of seats, a high-tech cabin, and excellent fuel economy.

The electrified 2025 Kia Sorento is available in two trim levels: EX and SX Prestige. A turbocharged 1.6-liter gas engine coupled with an electric motor powers both the HEV and PHEV versions of the new Sorento; the additional power and range the paired electric motor provides vary depending on which version you choose.

The 2025 Kia Sorento Hybrid and PHEV's exterior changes mimic those of the refreshed 2024 gas model. Highlights include rugged boxy styling, Star Map lighting, and amber daytime running headlights. The electrified versions are available in four new exterior paint colors and feature an exclusive 19-inch alloy wheel design.

Like the exterior, the interior of the 2025 Kia Sorento Hybrid and PHEV mirrors that of the refreshed 2024 gas-powered Sorento. Notable items include a curved panoramic display with dual 12.3-inch screens—one for driver information and the other for infotainment—on the up-level SX Prestige trim. The infotainment touchscreen is the gateway to Kia’s Connected Car Navigation Cockpit operating system. Although the Sorento Hybrid EX has a smaller 4.3-inch driver information display, it retains the 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen.
Second-row captain’s chairs are standard in the Sorento PHEV and optional in the Sorento Hybrid. Both SUVs feature a third row of seats. Heated front and second-row seats are standard, and ventilated front seats are available. A new Dust Blue leather interior color is also available in higher trim levels.

The 2025 Kia Sorento HEV and PHEV use a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder gas engine paired with an electric motor and a six-speed automatic transmission. However, there is a slight power difference between the two models.
Featuring a 44.2-kW electric motor, the Sorento Hybrid extracts energy from a 1.5-kWh battery. The powertrain produces 227 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard on the EX; AWD is standard on the SX Prestige and optional on the EX. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the EX version of the 2025 Kia Sorento Hybrid gets an estimated 36 mpg combined, while the AWD-only SX Prestige gets 34 mpg combined.
If you opt for the 2025 Sorento PHEV, you’ll get a more powerful 66.9-kW electric motor and a 13.8-kWh battery that combine to produce 261 hp. According to the EPA, the Sorento PHEV has an estimated all-electric driving range of 30 miles and returns 74 MPGe combined. Unlike the standard hybrid variant, the PHEV has standard AWD.

Unsurprisingly, the standard safety and technology features in the electrified 2025 Kia Sorento closely mirror those of the gas-powered model. Optional advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) include intelligent adaptive cruise control and Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2) automatic lane-changing technology.
The infotainment is also much the same as the gas version. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come standard, viewed on a 12.3-inch touchscreen. Multiple USB-C ports throughout the cabin provide convenience, as does a wireless device charger.
Midsize SUVs like the 2025 Kia Sorento are uber-popular thanks to their capability and accommodating cabins. Adding a hybrid option helps ease the pain of rising gas prices and positions the Sorento in a good place as the transition to fully electric vehicles slowly marches forward. Other electrified midsize SUV players include the Ford Explorer, Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, Mazda CX-90, and the Toyota Highlander.
