BMW Reveals Model Updates For This Summer

BMW has always been known for pushing boundaries and setting benchmarks in the automotive world. This commitment to innovation continues with the exciting announcement of multiple new models and the introduction of a revolutionary operating system slated for the summer of 2023. These advancements are further evidence of BMW's ongoing mission to broaden its electrified product portfolio.

The i4 range has been making waves in the electric vehicle scene and is about to receive a significant boost. The 2024 i4 xDrive40 is the latest all-wheel-drive variant to join this prestigious lineup. This newcomer boasts an impressive 396 horsepower derived from its dual electric motors. The torque figure of 443 lb-ft hints at the vehicle's agility and performance, capable of achieving a 0-60 mph time in just 4.9 seconds.

Power is nothing without endurance, and BMW understands this. The lithium-ion battery in the i4 xDrive40 has a net usable energy content of 80.7 kWh. This ensures a generous estimated range of 307 miles when equipped with the standard 18-inch aerodynamically optimized wheels. However, if you choose the optional 19-inch wheels, you will still get an estimated range of 282 miles.

The 2024 BMW i4 xDrive40 is expected to commence U.S. deliveries in the third quarter of 2023. With a starting base MSRP of $61,600 plus $995 for destination and handling, the i4 xDrive40 offers performance, range, and affordability, ensuring a perfect blend for electric vehicle enthusiasts.

But that's not all. BMW's iconic 7 Series will also see two electrified entrants joining its prestigious ranks. The first of these is the 2024 750e xDrive plug-in hybrid. This model pairs a 308-hp TwinPower Turbo 3.0-liter 6-cylinder internal combustion engine with a 194-hp GEN5 electric motor. The result is a staggering 483 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, promising a driving experience that seamlessly combines power with efficiency. More importantly, the 750e xDrive can travel more than 35 miles on purely electric power, reinforcing BMW's commitment to reducing carbon emissions.

When it comes to the market in fall 2023, the 750e xDrive will have a base price of $107,000 plus $995 for destination and handling. With this model, BMW provides a remarkable blend of luxury and sustainable driving.

Alongside the 750e xDrive, the 7 Series will also introduce the single-motor, rear-wheel-drive i7 eDrive50. Despite being a single-motor vehicle, the i7 eDrive50 packs a punch with 449 horsepower. This model will hit the market with a starting price of $105,700 plus $995 for destination and handling in the fall of 2023. Specific range and performance figures will be announced closer to the market launch.

In addition to the electric offerings, the 6-cylinder 740i is now available with xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive. This feature drops the 0-60 time from 5.1 seconds to 4.9 seconds and adds more confidence and stability in all sorts of weather conditions. The 2024 BMW 740i xDrive will start at $99,400 plus $995 for destination and handling, with deliveries expected in the third quarter of 2023.

The other key aspect of BMW's upcoming plans is the introduction of the BMW Operating System 8.5. The evolution of BMW’s iDrive operating system, this enhanced interface boasts a new home screen with well-arranged functions, providing ease of use on the BMW Curved Display. The "zero-layer" principle ensures all essential features and information appear on a single level, eliminating the need to navigate through submenus. With a vertical arrangement of live widgets on the driver's side of the user interface, desired functionalities are just a fingertip away.

The BMW Operating System 8.5 introduces the QuickSelect feature, which provides immediate access to entertainment programs, contact lists, vehicle settings, and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. A quick tap on the home icon at the display's lower edge takes the user back to the home screen. For further convenience, the system includes direct access to the climate control menu, the All Apps menu, Navigation, Media, Communication, and compatibility with both Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™.

Starting in July 2023, this cutting-edge operating system will be rolled out in BMW iX models, i4 models, and 7 Series models. The following month, it will be extended to BMW X5 and X6 models, X7 models, and BMW XM. The only exception to this broad rollout will be the M models and XM, which will not feature QuickSelect.

These electrifying advancements from BMW underline the company's commitment to sustainable driving and technological advancement. From expanding the i4 lineup to introducing electrified 7 Series models and rolling out the new BMW Operating System 8.5, BMW continues to revolutionize our driving experience. As we eagerly anticipate these developments, it's evident that BMW is steadily moving towards a future where the thrill of driving and environmental responsibility coexist harmoniously.
