The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has awarded the 2020 Audi A6 Allroad its ultimate rating for crashworthiness, a Top Safety Pick+ designation.
In order to earn a Top Safety Pick rating, a vehicle must earn the top score of Good in six different crash protection tests along with a score of Advanced or Superior for the car’s advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The IIHS adds a “+” designation when a vehicle’s standard headlight ratings are Good or Acceptable.
Helping to ensure top Audi A6 Allroad safety ratings, the roster of standard and available ADAS includes the expected driving aids for a car that costs more than $65,000, as well as some unusual features that are less common. For example, Audi Adaptive Cruise Assist makes lower speed travel in traffic easier and less stressful, while Turn Assist and Intersection Assist add a layer of safety in cross-traffic situations. Emergency Assist is also available, bringing the car to a safe stop with the hazard flashers activated in the event the driver falls asleep or suffers a medical problem.
If this Audi detects that a collision cannot be averted, it’s Pre Sense technologies automatically prepare the vehicle and its occupants for impact, automatically closing the windows, tightening the seat belts, positioning the seats and head restraints for maximum effectiveness, and more. Available Matrix-design LED headlights with automatic high-beam assistance ensure excellent visibility after dark, and with Prestige trim, an optional Night Vision Assistant system is available.
A station wagon version of the Audi A6, the 2020 Audi A6 Allroad is dressed up to look like a crossover SUV. Equipped with a turbocharged 335-horsepower 3.0-liter V-6 engine and standard Quattro all-wheel drive, the wagon’s standard adaptive air suspension can raise the Allroad up to 1.8 inches for traveling off of the beaten path.
Standard features such as roof rails and 20-inch wheels surrounded by matte-gray wheel arch and rocker panel trim convey this luxury car’s intentions to take you on an adventure, while amenities like four-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and a 16- or 23-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system ensure that the journey is taken in comfort.
Audi A6 Allroad prices start at $65,900, and the Driver Assistance option package that equips the car with nearly all of the safety features costs an additional $1,750. The A6 Allroad is on sale now.
