Many car manufacturing companies have long-spanning reputations built over generations. Brands like Ford, Lincoln, and Ferrari have produced so many excellent vehicles that they are imprinted in the consumer’s mind.

Land Rover is a British manufacturer of no small renown. In this article, we will talk about the company in-depth. We will briefly tell you about their history, talk about two main lineups, and give recommendations about which of their cars will suit you best.
Land Rover, the British company that manufactures the eponymous vehicle, is one-half of the larger British company Jaguar Land Rover, a subsidiary of the Indian Tata Motors. The organization started to slowly grow in 1948 with the manufacturing of off-road vehicles inspired by World War II cars.
Throughout its existence, the company made the iconic Series cars - I, II, IIA, IIB, and III - and the Defender in two-door and four-door variants. Freelander was also part of the Land Rover name but was rebranded as LR2 in the second generation. However, Land Lover also manufactures brands like Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque, and Range Rover Velar.
The company never ventured on its lonesome and was always part of a more prominent company. It was owned by Leyland Corp (British Leyland later) first, only for it to be nationalized in 1975. After that, BMV and Ford briefly gobbled up the company until it became a full subsidiary of Tata Motors.
Because of that, Land Rover established two separate brands to clearly explain to customers the kind of experience they’ll be getting. You can choose between these types: Land Rover and Range Rover.
Land Rovers are all about utility, practicality, and off-road prowess. Unlike Range Rovers, they come with an optional third row and can fit seven passengers. The prices for these can vary but usually are somewhere between $37,800 and $80,000, depending on what comes with the vehicle. Land Rover boasts many luxury features and high-end cabins for comfort and utility. Cars like that can easily handle rugged terrain or power down the highway.
These vehicles are perfect for someone who likes road trips. All Rovers come with a Terrain Response system, including hill start assist, hill-descent control, and gradient acceleration control. Specific modules allow overcoming terrain and make driving on grass, sand, gravel, mud ruts, or snow an effortless ordeal.
Like Land Rovers, but different in some aspects, Range Rovers are targeted towards other kinds of buyers. They market these vehicles to the wealthy, so they tend to be even more expensive.
All in all, Range Rovers come in three sizes: small, mid-size, and full-size. The general appeal of this brand is off-road capability coupled with a refined interior and luxurious design. Usually, customers can select the engine and choose from 246-horsepower turbo-four to a supercharged V8. Here prices can start at $40,000 and rapidly climb up to $200,000 depending on the options and trim you pick.
All Range Rovers have the same Terrain Response system, meaning they can handle rivers, mountains, and cross deserts with relative ease. Add impressive towing capacity, adaptive air suspension, rock crawl mode, and plenty of ground clearance on top, and you get a luxury ride well worth the asking price.
Just as with clothes, color, or any other commodity, it all comes down to your preferences. Both Rovers are great at handling off-road terrain, with the principal difference being in terms of additional options and features. But if you were to ask us for advice, we can only say that it will depend on how you will use the ride.
Land Rovers are cheaper, can fit in more passengers, and, all in all, are well-suited for family road trips. If you start having problems with the vehicle, driving to the nearest auto shop will not be as costly as with Range Rovers. These luxury SUVs should mostly remain within city limits, where a sharp rock, an animal, or any other road hazard will not cause financial burdens.
