Taking your car for regular maintenance is the ultimate way to ensure reliability, optimum performance, and durability. But every car model is unique, and so are its maintenance requirements. Even so, as a manufacturer, Volkswagen provides general maintenance schedules which you can follow to ensure smooth functioning and provides fixed or flexible service depending on your car's age.

You may need Volkswagen’s fixed maintenance services if you drive for less than 9,300 miles a year or make frequent but short urban trips. The same applies if your car runs in conditions that require a high engine load, such as hill driving, trailer towing, driving with multiple passengers, and high engine rpm.
The fixed service interval for cars under three years requires an annual inspection and oil service. The first oil service takes place at 9,300 miles or in 12 months. The second takes place at 18,600 miles or 24 months, and the third at 27,900 miles or 36 months.
For cars over three years, Volkswagen lets you choose between major or minor services, each with varying service intervals, checks, and replacements. Minor service takes place every 10,000 miles or 12 months and includes oil changes and oil filter replacements, tire rotations, airbag system inspections, and headlight inspections.
Major service takes place at 20,000 miles or two years and includes the same items as the 10,000-mile service, plus battery and brake system inspections, fuel filter replacement, tire inspection, and more. Volkswagen recommends you switch between the major and minor services for the best results.
If you drive more than 25 miles per day, regularly drive long distances, or drive with lower engine loading such as minimum hill climbs, towing, or driving with fewer passengers. Volkswagen advises you to opt for their flexible service. For flexible service, the first oil service takes place at 18,600 miles or 24 months, the second at 37,200 miles or 48 months, and the third at 55,800 miles or 72 months.
As your car mileage increases, you will need certain checks and replacements at every milestone. Here are the maintenance service intervals and the items that will be taken care of during them.
The mechanics will take care of the following maintenance tasks each time you reach 10,000 miles:
At every 20,000 miles, Volkswagen technicians will take care of the same items as during the 10,000-mile service plus the following additional ones, which will also be done when you pass 90,000- and 100,000-mile marks.
At the 30,000-mile mark, you will be taken through the 10,000-mile service maintenance list. But the mechanics will take also do the following:
Expect the mechanic to deal with the same tasks when you hit the 50,000, 70,000, 90,000, and 110,000-mile service intervals.
The 40,000-mile service takes you through the most comprehensive maintenance task list and extends to the 80,000-mile and 120,000-mile services. At these intervals, the 10,000-mile service will be covered as usual, but the service center will carry out the following:
